Date of Submission 26th April 2023

General Instructions
❖ Answer the Questions with the necessary steps
❖ Write the Question number properly, separate each answer by drawing line between
them.

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

6.

7. Which of the following sets are equal? A= {𝑥: 𝑥2 − 11𝑥 + 30 = 0}, B = {6,5} and C = {𝑥: 𝑥 ∈ 𝑁, 4 < 𝑥 < 8}
8. Write in set-builder form:
1 2 3 4 5
i) A= {2, 3, 5,7, 11} ii) 𝐵 = {3, 5,7, 9, 11} iii) C= {0, 7, 26, 63, …} iv) D = { 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6,…..}
9. Shade the following using a Venn diagram: (AUBUC)’ ii) A’ ∩ (C –B)

10. 𝐴 = {1,2,3,4,5} 𝐵 ={1,3,5,8}, 𝐶 = {2,5,7,8} . Verify A -(BUC) = (A-B) ∩(A-C)

11. Prove that: A∩ (B - C) = (A∩B) - (A ∩ C)

12. If U = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9}, A = {1, 2, 3, 4}, B = {2, 4, 6, 8}. Find (A – B)'.

13. f A, B and C are three sets such that A UB = AUC and A∩ 𝐵 = 𝐴 ∩ 𝐶, then show that B = C
14. If A, B and c are three sets such that AU𝐵 = 𝐶, and A∩ 𝐵 = Ø then show that A = C – B
15. Let U = {𝑥: 𝑥 ≤ 9, 𝑥 ∈ 𝑁}; 𝐴 = {1, 3, 5, 7,9}; 𝐵 = {2,3,5,7} 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐶 = {1 ,2 ,3, 4, 5}.
Find: i) A∩ (𝐵 𝖴 𝐶) ii) A – (B∩ 𝐶)
Verify: i) (A𝖴 𝐵)’ = A’∩ 𝐵’ ii) A U (B∩ 𝐶) = (𝐴 𝖴 𝐵) ∩ (𝐴 𝖴 𝐶)
16. From the adjoining Venn diagram, determine the following sets:

(i) A ∪B (ii) A ∩ B
(iii) A – B (iv) (A ∩B)’
17. Represent the shaded part of the Venn diagram in terms of union and intersection of sets

18. A and B are two sets such that n(A) = 3 and n(B) = 6.
Find (i) minimum value of n (A ∪B)
(ii) maximum value of n(A∪B).
20. In the given Venn diagram, if n(U) = 100, n(A) = 60, n(B) = 48, n (A ∩ B) =22 and
n (A ∩ C) = 30
(i) Find value of n(A∪B
(ii) Find the value of n (B’∩ C)
21. CASE STUDY:
A Venn diagram is an illustration that uses circles to show the relationships among things or finite
groups of things. Circles that overlap have a commonality while circles that do not overlap do not
share those traits. Venn diagrams help to visually represent the similarities and differences between
two concepts.
Let A and B be two sets such that n(A) = 20, n (A ∪ B) = 42 and n (A ∩ B) = 8
(i) Draw Venn diagram to find n(B).
(ii) Find n (A – B) and n (B – A).
