Part Two: Reflection

During my internship with Chaparral High School I intend on strengthening my skills as a

counselor. In effort to strengthen my skills I will collaborate with staff members and

administration. Also, I will utilize documents, webinars, videos, articles, or readings shared by

staff/administration to further my understanding of counseling procedures. In addition, I

further educate myself on the academic high school structure through attending meetings held

by members of staff or administration.

During my first week as intern I have attended various meetings with Chaparral High

School staff and Temecula Valley Unified School District administration. I have noticed how

school policies and topics pertaining to student academic success are articulated and discusse d.

In effort to contribute toward school policies and student academic success, I intend on

engaging in staff meetings. I believe that advocating my own thoughts and opinions will help

me grow during my internship.

In continuation, I noticed how many steps are required to ensure that a counselor is

effectively assessing or documenting a student’s progress. Also, I realize that I need to learn

more about group counseling (e.g. when, why, and how). Thus, I intend on attending or

observing multiple group counseling sessions at Chaparral High School. I want to be able to
identify various counseling theories that can be utilized while observing group counseling

sessions. In addition, I want to observe different methods and approaches toward dealing with

multicultural students.

In conclusion, I will utilize the various resources provided to me by my clinical site

supervisor as a means to strengthen my counseling abilities. I will understand the purpose for

every daily task/ objective. I will volunteer to observe group counseling as well as observe

multicultural student counseling sessions. Lastly, I will continuously collaborate with staff and

administration to further my understanding of high school academic structure.
