When cuttings are taken, any

flowers or flower buds are removed
from the cutting to direct all of the
plants energy into creating roots.

The cuttings can either be placed

directly into the soil, a water
medium, rooting hormone, etc. to stem
get the roots to grow.
Leaf Cuttings
The leaf-cutting consists of a portion of a
leaf blade, a complete leaf blade, or a leaf
blade with a petiole attached.
Typically used when plant materials are scarce
and when there is a large amount of plants
needed.
Leaf cuttings may need a clear plastic bag
around them to hold moisture.

Stem Cuttings
It is a clipped segment of a stem that has a
terminal bud or lateral buds and is placed in
growing media to create roots, with a portion
of the stem partially buried in the soil.
There is at least one leaf node in it.
The incision might form new roots, usually at
the node.

Root Cuttings
New shoots are produced through root
cuttings, which include burying a part of the
root slightly below the soil surface.
The root cutting makes use of the root or a
portion of the root, usually from young
plants.
These cuttings must be 3-6 inches in length
and treated with fungicide. Planted
horizontally at least 2 inches below the soil.

Leaf Bud Cuttings
The leaf-bud cutting consists of a leaf, petiole,
and a short piece of stem with a lateral bud.
This type is used when woody plant materials are
scarce and a large number of new plants are
required.
These types of cuttings are taken from plants
with fully developed buds and actively growing
leaves.
The leaf-bud cutting’s lateral bud must not be
completely covered.
Typically treated with rooting hormone, kept in
high humidity, and has bottom heat to aid growth.
