QUIZ-2

1. Suppose we are told that the acceleration (a) of a particle moving with
uniform speed (v) in a circle of radius (r) is proportional to some power of
r, say r n, and some power of v, say vm. Determine the values of n and m and
write the simplest form of an equation for the acceleration.
𝑎 ∝ rn vm

2. Two vectors are given by A = -2i + 4j and B = -i + 2 j - 2k.

(a) Find A. B and A x B
(b) Find the angle of between A and B.

3. The velocity of a particle moving along the x axis varies in time according to the
expression
vx = (20 -4t2 ) m/s, where t is in seconds.
(a) Find the average acceleration in the time interval t = 0 to t = 2 s.
(b) Determine the acceleration at t = 2 s..

4. In a local bar, a customer slides an empty beer mug down the counter for a refill. The
bartender is momentarily distracted and does not see the mug, which slides off the
counter and strikes the floor 2.4 m from the base of the counter. If the height of the
counter is 0.8 m
(a) with what velocity did the mug leave the counter
(b) what was the direction of the mug’s velocity just before it hit the floor?
5. A block of mass 3 kg is pushed up to remain stationary. (Assume g=10
against a wall by a force P that makes a m/s2 , cos50=0.64, sin 50=0.76)
50 ° angle with the horizontal as shown
in Figure 1. The coefficient of static
friction between the block and the wall
is 0.3. Determine the possible values for
the magnitude of P that allow the block
