A movie called The Blind Soldiers is based on a real event. In Lanao Del Sur's
Malaybalay Bukidnon, the film unfolds against the backdrop of World War Two, during the
tumultuous period of the Japanese invasion. It portrays the incredible journey of five brave men
from the Teduray tribe of Cotabato
During World War Two, five members of the Teduray tribe of Cotabato enrolled in the
United States of Armed Forces in the Far East (USAFFE) in Maguindanao Provinces, Cotabato
City, and Maguindanao as the Japanese invasion grew more ferocious. When they understood the
scope of the conflict they had agreed to join, what had initially seemed like a good aim quickly
turned into a nightmare. To make matters worse, they are illiterate, which further complicates
their effort. In order to defend their homeland as USAFFE troops fighting against the Japanese
invaders, these Tedurays underwent training and preparedness. These tribesmen had "no read, no
write" when they began their attempt, but their bravery and patriotism allowed them to succeed
above and beyond expectations.
These men have experienced the terrible consequences of war despite their feelings of
dread, hunger, rage, and loss of a family member or friend during the conflict. As a result of
USAFFE's defeat and surrender, they had to rely on one another to survive. Rather than giving
up the fight, they chose to bravely fight their treacherous voyage home, and they were eventually
honored for their valor and love of their country.
