1. What is the skeletal system?

The skeletal system is your body’s central framework. It consists of bones and
connective tissue, including cartilage, tendons, and ligaments. It is also called
the musculoskeletal system. There are 206 bones in an adult human skeleton.

2. Role of skeletal system:

Besides giving us our human shape (body’s framework) and the skeletal system
has many functions:

 Allows movement: Your skeleton supports your body weight to help you
stand and move. Joints, connective tissue, and muscles work together to
make your body parts mobile.
 Produces blood cells: Bones contain bone marrow. Red and white blood
cells are produced in the bone marrow.
 Protects and supports organs: Your skull shields your brain, your ribs
protect your heart and lungs, and your backbone protects your spine.
 Stores minerals: Bones hold your body’s supply of minerals like
calcium and vitamin D.

3. What are the parts of the skeletal system?

Each bone has three main layers: Periosteum, Compact bone and Spongy bone.
The other components of your skeletal system include: Cartilage, Joints,
Immovable joints, Partly movable joints, Movable joints, Ligaments, Tendons.

4. What are some common conditions that can affect the skeletal
system?

Some happen as a result of disease or injury. Others develop due to wear and
tear as you get older. Conditions that may affect the skeletal system can include:

 Arthritis: Age, injury, and medical conditions

 Fracture: Disease, a tumor, or trauma can put stress on a bone, causing it
to break.
 Osteosarcoma: Cancer that forms in the bones
 Osteoporosis: not getting enough calcium cause bone loss
 Sprains and tears: Age, disease and trauma

5. How advance in technology have improved artificial joints/limbs.

Orthopaedic doctors specialize in the skeletal system.
 Cartilage degradation and joint deformities lead to persistent pain
and limited mobility.
 For the treatment of these diseases in the late stages, depending on
the indications the effective method use is total joint
arthroplasty.
 The latest Robotic technologies in the field of joint arthroplasty are
osseointegration (read as osseo-integ-ration) of artificial joints and
predictive assessment of areas for their improvement.
 ROBODOC assisted hip replacement system earlier and in recent
times knee replacement is developed.

II. Reproductive System:

1. Role of reproductive system: Primary function of reproductive system is

to produce offspring. And other 4 function/roles are to produce egg and
sperm cells. To transport and sustain these cells. To nurture the
developing offspring. To produce hormones.

2. Types of reproductions: Asexual reproduction: Process of creating new

individual using one parent organism. It makes clones. Ex: plants and
bacteria. Sexual reproduction: Process of creating new individual using
two parent organisms. Ex: humans

3. Identify the major organs of reproductive system. Male reproductive

system includes the penis, testes, and internal structure.
Female reproductive organs are the vagina, uterus, fallopian tubes, and
ovaries.

III Respiratory System

1. Role of respiratory system: The main function of the respiratory

system is to absorb oxygen from air and supply it to the cells so that
organs can work and remove carbon dioxide which is produced by
cellular metabolism.
2. Major organs of
respiratory
system:
 Nose.
 Mouth.
 Throat (pharynx)
 Voice box (larynx)
 Windpipe (trachea)
 Airways (bronchi)
 Lungs
 blood vessels

3. How advance in technology have found solutions for treatment of asthma

i. While no specific treatment has been available for asthma due to its
complex pathogenesis, the advances in nanotechnology have brought
new hope for the early diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of asthma.
Nanotechnology can achieve targeted delivery of drugs and reduce
toxic effects and improve drug bioavailability.

ii. Tracking devices and mobile applications created by technology

companies helps adults to manage asthma. This application
symptoms by help to track their medication use, weather, and
environmental triggers. Several companies have also set up websites
to help children with asthma to learn about their chronic condition.
