1.0 Introduction
This document covers the procedures for the installation of the mechanical equipment of
the Odour Control Unit supplied by ERG (Air Pollution Control) Ltd. for Construction Works
For Main Sewer line (Saadiyat Island) project. The project has the following details:
It is important that installation team is provided with the latest revisions of all relevant
drawings and documents prior work start.
The Health and Safety at Work Act of 1974 and it’s supplementary regulations place a duty
upon employers to provide such information, instruction, training and supervision as
necessary to ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of their
employees whilst at their place of work. This document is written using this legislation as a
minimum standard, although all site activities must be governed by the applicable local
regulations.
It is expected that the site personnel who are using this document are aware of the Specific
Site Regulations as well as the general requirements of the relative legislation.
As far as is reasonably practicable ERG (Air Pollution Control) Ltd. has ensured that the
design of the equipment, the installation method and installation activities have been
arranged to be safe and without risk to health provided that the statutory Health and Safety
Regulations are complied with.
1.3 Personnel
The intention of this document is to provide guidance on the Erection and Installation of the
Odour Control Unit. In the preparation of these notes, it has been assumed that the site
personnel and any sub-contractors using this document are competent in their trades, and
that they are adequately supervised and trained in the type of work associated with the
erection and installation of the system.
In addition, all personnel on site must be aware of the Site Regulations relevant to working
on a Construction Site, Health and Safety Regulations and Codes of Practice.

2.0 Plant Description
The passive filter has been designed and sized to accept the contaminated air from the manhole to
reduce the Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) levels to the agreed removal efficiency as per project
requirements and specifications and in-line with the Package Performance Testing Protocol, Doc.
No. AJ6987/PTP01. The Odour control unit treats the air in a single stage, activated carbon filter

Installation method statement are prepared on the basis that the site is clear, ready for work and
that the following conditions are met:
▪ Civil works undertaken have been completed and are ready to accept mechanical equipment
having been checked as correct to drawing.
▪ Free and easy access to all areas of the plant site always is guaranteed. Lifting equipment
can access the site without restriction by overhead power lines, etc.
▪ Temporary supplies of utilities i.e. water, drainage, etc. that are necessary to carry out
erection and installation activities are available at the time of installation.
▪ That all equipment can be delivered to a point which is local to the jobsite and can be
accessed to suit the erection and installation programme.
▪ The site engineer responsible for the erection and installation will maintain the programme
considering the local site factors.

5. Training
Each person on site should be properly trained to ensure they can work safely as follows:
• Manual Handling
• Use of lifting equipment
• Use of personnel protective equipment
All personnel involved to have read the contents of this method statement and signed to
agree to carry out the works as detailed within.
All equipment to be used on site will be properly inspected and maintained in accordance
with regulations and manufacturers’ recommendations.

• Safety harness for work above 2 metres
• Gloves
• Safety glasses
8. Isolations
Depending on the phasing of the odour control installation, it will be necessary to review
the isolation of the following items to ensure safe working:

The site contact will be notified daily on commencing and completion of work, in
accordance with site main contractor’s instructions and SOPs.
The safe working procedure to be followed is attached. It specifies the sequence of events
which must be followed to ensure the work is carried out safely.

11. Identification of Clients Risks

Emergency plans will be formulated and agreed between the Client and Contractor prior to
work commencing.
Work should be carried out in accordance with local, national and international
relevant health and safety legislation in Jordan.

▪ Inform client of arrival on site and sign in visitor’s book (if required by site owner).
▪ Ensure all personnel are aware of the work as detailed in this procedure and the
precautions to be employed.
▪ Site supervisor to carry out all necessary “tool-box talks” to identify hazards
associated with the procedures carried out each day.
The following installation procedure should be followed. ERG assumes competent, trained
and experienced fitters are carrying out this procedure, supervised by a suitably qualified,
experienced and competent supervisor. All installation to be done in accordance with the
ERG drawings.
Unload the system equipment from the container/truck on the prepared, secured hard
standing.

The boxes shall be off-loaded using a forklift, or by hand if small enough to lift safely. The
vessels shall be off loaded using suitable cranes.

4 of SS angel bracket, 550 ID gasket, 550 ID SS plate shall be provide by the others
before install the GRP carbon foilter
▪ Fix the ss angel support bracket using anchor bolts M12 x 60mm min. on the
reinforced concrete. As per DWG AJ6987-0-700
▪ Install 5mm THK gasket on the fixed support brackets, as per DWG AJ6987-0-700.
Gasket to be drilled on the site to suit.

▪ Install 8mm THK 316L ss sealing plate on the gasket, as per DWG AJ6987-0-700
▪ Position the carbon filter on the on ss support and ss support bracket and ss
sealing plate. Vessel to be drilled on the site to suit.
▪ Check packing support grid through is in place.
The carbon media is supplied in 20kg bag to enable the individual bags to be manually loaded. The
bags of new media shall be stored in a safe location, away from sources of ignition and adjacent to
a water source suitable for use on a carbon bed fire.
▪ Inspect the empty carbon filter vessel through the outlet hole.
▪ Inspect packing support grid and clean as necessary.
▪ Fill the carbon media into vessel to the required level of above the grid one bag at a
time.
▪ Ensure that the media level is evenly distributed.
▪ Ensure that there is no extraneous material, combustible or not is to be allowed into
the carbon filter during filling or during operation.
▪ Close the manhole cover.
▪ The empty sacks should be collected and suitably disposed of.
