Introduction:
My documentary will be about how videogames have changed overtime, starting at the early games
like pong then moving up to more modern videogames. I will discuss how they’ve changed, what’s
changed and discuss the positives of the old games and new games. I will also discuss what
videogames have bought to people outside of the games itself. I chose this for my documentary as
it’s a very broad subject that applies to many people.
Synopsis:
My documentary will be about the development of videogames and how the eSports industry has
developed alongside that.
I will start of with how videogames came to be and how the world reacted to that
Afterwards I will move more into modern videogames and discuss how the Esports indsutry as grown
to host conventions and tournaments
I will then discuss what specifically has changed throughout time for both games and the industry
I may focus on to a specific game series to describe how that has developed as an example (FNAF,
Final Fantasy, Mario etc.)
I will then move on to the interviews and my own opinion before finishing off with the conclusion.
Research Objectives:
I hope to discover whether or not people prefer how games used to be in the past or in the present
and what they think the future of videogames would be like.
Methodology:
I plan to use the open studio time to conduct a couple of interviews with people in my class as well
as some of my current/previous teachers. I plan to ask some people who I know who consistently
play videogames to get their opinion, this however won’t take place as an interview. I will do a lot of
research into how videogames have changed over time.
Key Resources:
The editing of my documentary will require software such as Premiere Pro, After Effects, and
possibly Photoshop. I will record my voice-over at home on my computer, as it’s in a quiet area and I
own a podcast mic which will be useful for this documentary.
Most of my research will come from various online sources. Some specific ones include Fandom’s for
the history on specific games, YouTube for other documentaries on the past of videogames and my
own knowledge on how the industry has developed.
Interviews:
I plan to interview some people in my class and my teachers. The people in my class have knowledge
on newer videogames whereas the teachers know about older videogames. I will also ask people
who have played both (Refer to Methodology).
-What do you think was the biggest change between old games and new games?
-What do you think the future of videogames and the Esports industry will be like?
I will also ask for information regarding when they started playing videogames, however they will be
added to their lower third and not a large question used for the interview.
I will record some gameplay myself but for a wider range of games I will use online footage. Most of
the footage I get online will likely be from YouTube, TikTok or Twitch. I can make a lower third to
credit the video poster.
My interviews will go in a way where the question is on the screen and the interviewee replies to the
question without hearing my voice in the background. Each person will be asked the same questions
to create a compilation of answers and opinions for each question.

Timeline:
The studio is booked out for the 30th. I will do my interviews then.
By the 30th, I will also ask others who cannot do an interview for their thoughts.
On the 1st December I will start working on gaining footage and starting to create the video
I then want to get the entire project done by the end of December.
Conclusion:
My conclusion will involve a brief statement on how the industry has developed (whether it was
positive or not) and finish off mentioning whether people prefer the old or new games. I will finish
off with asking the audience which they prefer.
