Specialist Subject Study

Proposal

For my specialist subject I have chosen to do a documentary on the ways social media and
streaming platforms have been used to promote and influence the esports community. To
do this I will need to find social media accounts of various teams as well as streaming
profiles that professional and amateur players use.
The documentary will be a case study about a student that I am friends with. I will be talking
about his times as a streamer and the ways he uses the symbiotic relationship with his
stream fans to improve himself as a streamer
I plan to make my documentary 10 minutes long. There will also be quiet background music
that will change throughout the documentary. There will be various camera angles such as:
 Close ups
 Medium shots
 Long shots
 Establishing shots
 Pans
 POV

I will also be using 3-point studio lighting to help focus the shadows to show our facial features
better. I also want to include a presenter effect so both me and Aiden will have the camera focused
on us at different times

I went with this idea as I myself am a small streamer and would like to document how
others improve and to critique myself and them and to help each other grow. To do this will
mean that I can gain feedback on my own streams and provide feedback on their streams. I
also chose this subject to specialise in as I would like to do a brief history of streaming
development and how its grown in the last 10-15 years.
I will be interviewing a classmate who have been streaming and growing to find out how
they used the platforms such as Instagram, twitch, YouTube, and discord to grow their fan
base and improve their image. For me to film this I will need to have video recording
equipment as well as people to operate the equipment. I will also need to be in a
comfortable environment that me and the person I am interviewing can relax in. I will need
clips of professional streamers as well as clips from people that I am interviewing for
comparison. A microphone will also be useful for me to have as it will make me much
clearer and sound more professional. With regards to props I will only need a couple of
chairs and a table and maybe some refreshment props.
The people I plan to interview are:
 Aiden oxlee
When interviewing the streamer< I will be showing clips of their past streams as well as
some from their most recent streams and discussing with them how they think they have
improved over their time streaming, I will also be asking them for advice on how they used
social media platforms to connect with their community and gain new fans. Finally, I will
also be asking the interviewed person how they plan to grow from here and where they see
themselves in 10 years’ time and what they want to see from the various platforms.

I will be including in my stream professional team profiles as well as events they have
promoted and some of their match gameplays. I will find my source information on social
media platforms such as Instagram and YouTube. I will be including some of this in my
documentary as well as their current roster for specific teams and what their most popular
games are. The teams I have chosen to include are team faze and team cloud 9. They are
two of the leading teams in esports with a deep history in the community and so I believe
they can offer me the most on the subject I have chosen
Finally, I will be talking about how the various platforms have been used and grown
throughout the years. I’ll be talking about top streamers as well as the cosmetics and logos
of the platforms and how they changed. I’ll be covering the topics of most played genre as
well as the topic of top series games s that have appeared on the platform.

Treatment
Aiden Oxlee

The person I will be interviewing will be Aiden Oxlee. I will be making a short introductory trailer to
insert beforehand. When he appears on screen, I will have his name appear as well as his esports
game. This will appear in an Engravers MT font. I will be interviewing him in a scene of his choice
where we will do an establishing shot of before we begin. I will be showing a few game clips that he
has. I will also be showing screengrabs of his social channels and accounts with his permission I will
then be asking him the following questions:

 Why do you stream? (What’s the benefits of streaming? Do you ever want to stop? What
effects your stream and game time?)
 Do you think this helps keep the esports community connected?
 Do you play any games commonly seen in esports? (i.e., rocket league, valorant, LoL,
overwatch ect.) and why?
 How do stay connected to your fans? (What does he gain from this and the setbacks he has
had from when he first started streaming)
 What platforms do you use and why? This will help me to question him on how that platform
benefits him and why he doesn’t utilize other platforms

I will be asking Aiden how he thinks technology has improved the community of esports and events
and what he thinks the future of esports will be with the advancements of technology. Another
query I will be asking is if he likes the way his favourite game has progressed since its preliminary
stages and adapted to be a part of the esports community.

Ill be asking him about the negatives of him streaming and how he has come to handle those
situations. What situations he has prevented as well as why he does certain ations. Also, I will ask
him how he has utilised multiple different platforms to improve and better his streams.

Ill also be asking him how he compares himself to more influential and bigger streamers such as
XQC.
Finally, as an exclusive question to Aiden I will be asking him what skills are required to stream and
play games at the same time. Ill also be asking him how the changes to various platforms have
hindered or improved his communication to the community and his fans.

When we are reviewing Aiden’s game clips there will be music that fits the clips. I will also be
including logos of games as well as short animations to help liven up my documentary. I plan to
spend 8 minutes interviewing Aiden due to him being a big and dedicated streamer.

Final segment

In the final 2 minutes I am interviewing Aiden, we will discuss the benefits that he has learnt from
streaming on various platforms. I will then be discussing how he think the esports community
benefits from this. The discussion will be about any recent events as well as how they were
promoted. I’ll be asking them if he thinks it could be promoted more as well.

Ill also be talking about the brief history of my favourite game and asking how he thinks it has
progressed through the years and changed. I’ll ask them how it could be adapted to become an
esports game as well as if they feel it is a game people will play.

Finally, I will be giving an overview on what we have all discussed and will have a bullet point board
next to me as I look at the camera as I list off the points as well as the skills needed to stream and
play an esports game.

In the final segment there will be melancholy music as its saying goodbye. When the outro happens,
the music will transition to fast paced before the camera wheels away from the scene fading out
before the credits appear on the screen.
