Introduction to Esports: Task 2 – Structure.


In this research task you will explore how esports is organized and structured
in the UK. 

Students must fill out each box below to the expected minimum word count, all research

What role does the government play?


Russia was the first country to acknowledge esports on a high-level Russia seemed to be staking an early position as an
industry leader. Unfortunately, due to false starts in Russia they only placed 11 th in the global gaming market in 2018. The
false start of esports as a national initiative in Russia has been attributed to a lack of funding and the country’s complex
bureaucracy.

How is esports defined under Russian law?


Esports is defined as a actual sport it has all the things it needs to be a sport, players, hosted events, viewers, prizes and
even betting services. It is actually treated by the law with money being put into it as Russian government sees lots of
potential in it even developing it to be a school lesson this has also been agreed with Vladimir Putin Russia’s leader.

What role do the Russian Esports Federation play?


The Russian eSports Federation, founded March 24 2000, helps host tournaments and promote eSports across the
country, making Russia one of the first countries to notice eSports as a sport. The RESF is split across every region in
Russia and each region hosts 3 competitions a year at a minimum. At least 1000 official competitions are held per year.
The state of eSports in Russia is commonly described as ‘swiftly developing’ due to the industries quick development
over the years.
How does esports fit within the wider video game industry?
Esports is becoming a larger part of the video game industry as casual gamers go pro. Most people play games for
entertainment and for fun and the prizes are not commonly thought about. Some schools have eSports as a course
which brings people into the video game community and introduce students to competitions.

What tournaments take place in Russia?

Championship 2022
