Rationale: This unit is relevant to the students in this course because it builds their basic algebra,
numeracy, and problem-solving skills as a learner of mathematics. It is also crucial to know this
material before moving onto Math 30-1 as all of this is prerequisite to the trigonometry unit in
that course. This unit addresses key elements of math education because it builds their ability to
use formulae, rearrange formulae for what they’re looking for, perform arithmetic properly, and
understand the relationships between angles and side lengths in triangles via the primary
trigonometric ratios. Trigonometry is used in real life when finding distances, heights, designing
buildings and objects, and physics. Knowing this material will set them up for success in
engineering, architecture, physics, and other fields that require mathematical knowledge at a
high level.

The unit exam will cover all topics within the unit. Students will
be given an entire period to write the exam. It is to be done
Unit Exam independently and silently. Bags must be put at the front of the ✅
classroom and students will only be able to have a pencil,
calculator, eraser.
The first quiz will cover all lessons. Students will be given 15
minutes to review before the quiz is handed out. Only
Quiz calculators, pencils, and erasers will be permitted once handed ✅
out. Students will receive their marked quizzes the next class
and use it to prepare and review for the exam.
Students will do this activity in small groups. They are to solve
word problems collaboratively and peer tutor. They are to make

moving onto the next question.
Each class will begin with an entrance slip regarding a question
that was assigned for the previous class's homework. Students
Entry Slips can do it on white boards or in their notebooks. I will observe ✅
the class as they do the entrance slip and doing formative
assessments of their understanding.
Exit slips will be done at the end of class before each quiz. This
will allow me to formatively assess their understanding of
material before they do a summative assessment. I will identify
Exit Slips
any concepts that seems to be difficult for the class and ✅
reinforce those topics during the review period before the quiz
the following day.
