FIRST TIME VOTERS
Date: October 19, 2023
Venue: Galalan Integrated National High School Classrooms
Attendees: Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 students
Facilitators: Teachers Jerome J. Salay, Jerome R. Domingo, Leizl V. Sadsad and
Jennilyn B. Feliciano

On the rainy morning of October 19, 2023,

students at Galalan Integrated National
High School received an important lecture
about responsible campaigning and voting
for first-time voters. The discussion took
place during class hours, inside the
students' respective classrooms.
Before delving into the main topic,
Teachers Jerome J. Salay, Jerom R. Domingo, Leizl V. Sadsad and Jennilyn B.
Feliciano briefly addressed the issue of vote buying in the context of the upcoming
Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections on October 30. As responsible
educators, they felt it was essential to impart knowledge about this unethical practice
to Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 students, who were eligible to vote in the SK Elections.
During the discussion, the teachers explained the
various forms of vote buying and the consequences it
carries. Students were also taught how to report
violations to the authorities. In their respective subjects,
the students were guided to explore the importance of
making informed decisions when casting their votes.
They were encouraged to research candidates, their
platforms, and track records to make well-informed
choices. The students were reminded that their
responsibility as voters extended beyond the act of
voting; they should actively hold elected officials
accountable for their promises and actions.
Concluding this extraordinary lecture, the teachers left an indelible impression
on the students by emphasizing the pivotal role that young voters play in shaping the
future of their communities. They reminded the students that their choices mattered,
and that responsible voting was a significant step towards building a better society.
