The Grade 6 learners of Del Monte Elementary School have been actively engaged in
various reading activities aimed at enhancing their reading skills and fostering a love for
literature. These activities have been designed to promote comprehension, critical thinking,

NARRATIVE REPORT ON CATCH-UP FRIDAYS

February 23, 2024

The reading activities conducted for Grade 6 learners at Del Monte Elementary
School have been designed to not only enhance their reading skills but also promote peace
education, values, and health awareness. These activities aim to instill in students a sense of
empathy, compassion, and responsibility towards themselves and others. To incorporate
peace education into the reading activities, books and stories that focus on themes of peace,
conflict resolution, and empathy were selected. The Grade 6 learners engaged in discussions
and reflections on these stories, exploring the importance of understanding different
perspectives, resolving conflicts peacefully, and promoting harmony within their community.
Through these readings, the students developed a deeper understanding of the value of peace
and the role they can play in creating a peaceful environment.
Reading activities also included the integration of values education. Stories that highlight
values such as honesty, respect, kindness, and perseverance were chosen. The Grade 6
learners actively participated in discussions and activities that encouraged them to reflect on
these values and apply them in their daily lives. By reading and analyzing stories that
exemplify positive values, the students developed a stronger moral compass and a greater
appreciation for the importance of ethical behavior.

Incorporating health education into the reading activities was another important
aspect. Books and articles focusing on topics such as nutrition, physical fitness, mental
health, and personal hygiene were introduced to the Grade 6 learners. Through these
readings, the students gained knowledge about healthy lifestyle choices, the importance of
balanced nutrition, the significance of regular exercise, and strategies for maintaining good
mental health.
The integration of peace education, values, and health awareness into the reading
activities for Grade 6 learners has provided them with valuable knowledge, skills, and
attitudes. By exploring literature that focuses on these themes, the students have developed a
deeper understanding of peace, values, and health-related concepts. They have also been
inspired to apply these principles in their daily lives, fostering a sense of empathy,
responsibility, and well-being.
