ACTIVITY COMPLETION REPORT

Name of Activity: Catch-Up Friday DEAR - Drop Everything and Read

Inclusive Dates:
 January 12 2024

Grade Level: 5

Proceedings:

The inaugural day of the Catch UP Friday DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) program marked a
significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to addressing reading and comprehension
challenges among elementary pupils. This innovative initiative, spearheaded by the Department of
Education, was designed to instill a love for reading and enhance comprehension skills. As the class
adviser, I eagerly embraced the opportunity to witness the impact of this program on my students.

On the first day of implementation, the classroom buzzed with excitement as students entered,
aware that the morning session would be dedicated entirely to independent silent reading. The
atmosphere transformed into a quiet sanctuary of learning, with each student engrossed in their
chosen reading materials. The rustling of pages, occasional murmurs of discussion about their
chosen books, and the profound silence of focused readers filled the room.

Students were encouraged to select books based on their interests and reading levels, promoting a
personalized reading experience. From adventurous tales to heartwarming stories, the diverse range
of materials catered to the varied preferences of the students. The Catch UP Friday DEAR program
not only aimed at improving literacy but also sought to ignite a passion for lifelong learning.

The latter half of the day seamlessly transitioned into an exploration of holistic education.
Recognizing that learning extends beyond the confines of traditional subjects, the Catch UP Friday
DEAR program incorporated Values Education, Health Education, Peace Education, and the
Homeroom Guidance Program.

During the Values Education session, students actively participated in discussions about essential life
values, morality, and personal integrity. The Health Education segment provided insights into
maintaining a healthy lifestyle and making informed choices. In the Peace Education module,
students engaged in conversations about conflict resolution, tolerance, and the significance of unity
in fostering a harmonious community.

The Homeroom Guidance Program, woven into the fabric of Catch UP Friday, allowed for open
dialogue between students and their classmates. This time was dedicated to addressing individual
concerns, fostering a sense of belonging, and reinforcing the importance of empathy and
understanding within the class.

The outcomes of the first day of Catch UP Friday DEAR program implementation were promising.
The enthusiasm for reading among students was palpable, and the engagement observed during the
independent silent reading session hinted at the potential positive impact on literacy skills.

The integrated Values Education, Health Education, Peace Education, and Homeroom Guidance
Program sessions contributed to a holistic approach to education. Students were not only gaining
knowledge from textbooks but were also acquiring essential life skills, values, and lessons that would
shape them into responsible and compassionate individuals.

The first day of the Catch UP Friday DEAR program served as a launchpad for a transformative
journey in education. It showcased the power of a dedicated time for independent silent reading
and demonstrated the potential of holistic education in shaping well-rounded individuals. As the
class adviser, I felt a sense of pride in witnessing the positive response from my students, reaffirming
the importance of initiatives like Catch UP Friday DEAR in fostering a love for learning that extends
beyond the boundaries of traditional academics. This day laid the foundation for a series of
impactful Fridays that would contribute to the holistic development of each student in our class.
