M5 POST TASK

GROUP 5

CHARACTERISTICS OF INDO MEDIA:

1. Indo media tends to have to make sure that they conform to the social and cultural make-up of
the country in order to ensure that people do not get offended by the media shown.
2. Newspapers have opted for a manner of reporting that can be said to be a little allusive and
indirect compared to how other countries might do their reporting.
3. Indo media tends to try to be respectful of its leaders as a means of honoring their own cultural
and social values.
4. Mass media in Indo media as a whole tends to be paired with divisive issues due to Indo media
as a whole seems to have developed over time.
5. The Indo government only regulates the press and Indo media as a whole to ensure that they
follow proper guidelines and regulations.

POP CULTURE OF INDONESIA

1. LGBT representation has been booming in Indonesian pop culture due to a movement by the
LGBT community of Indonesia as a response to all sorts of more and more inclusive norms
among the youth.
2. On the other hand, the LGBT community as a whole is still strictly taboo in most popular media
in Indonesia, though this has also changed a bit since the 2010s.
3. Among even the popular cultures of Asia, Indonesian pop culture is all the more linked to the
country’s identity and how it has developed over the years.
4. Among many of its poorer and less fortunate citizens, the pop culture of Indonesia in particular
can be seen as a beacon of hope allowing them to see the other side of how things could be.
5. In that sense, Pop culture in Indonesia is also something that people in Indonesia use as a means
of better fighting for their rights and the things that they wish for through art, music, and all
sorts of other forms of media.

INDO MEDIA VS FILO MEDIA

1. Philippine media has had some representation of the LGBT community in its media over the
years, with each new representative being taken all the more seriously, whereas Indo media as a
whole still struggles with the taboos of Indonesia as a whole.
2. In many cases, Pop culture and media as a whole was a big part in how Filipino culture and
Indonesian culture were able to survive during the darkest times for both countries. This is seen
in the Philippines embracing Voltes V and other such animes for its subversive message and anti-
imperialist tone in the midst of Martial Law under President Ferdinand Marcos while Indonesia
embraced all sorts of media as a whole under the regime of President Soeharta. Funnily enough
however, Voltes V is also well known in Indonesian media, having been distributed through
Betamax tapes.
3. Both countries embraced the media that they did due to the promises of freedom that they had,
and in turn this led them to creating and spreading all sorts of messages over the years in pop
culture.
4. Pop culture reflects the wishes and desires of both Filipinos and Indonesians, and this is seen in
how they create their art, music, literature, etc. This same reverence for pop culture also means
that the two countries, though different enough now than for how they were in their dictatorial
regimes, are still linked to the media of their past as a whole.
5. Lastly, Philippine media and Indonesian media as a whole provides escapism for the different
classes of the countries, with many forms of the media created over the years helping give rise
to the desires of what each country’s people might want at any given time.
