Experiment No. - 04

Title:- To study load frequency control using approximate and exact model by professional software.
Aim:- To study load frequency control using approximate model of isolated power system in MATLAB
environment.
Apparatus/Software:
1. MATLAB
Theory:
A complete block diagram of an isolated power system consists of governor, turbine, generator and load as
shown in figure.

Fig1.a- Block diagram representation of isolated power system

There are two important incremental input to load frequency control system as shown in fig.1.a as
i.e. change in speed changer setting and i.e. change in load demand. Let us consider a simple
situation in which speed changer has fixed setting i.e. and the load demand changes. This is
known as free governor operation. For such operation steady change in system frequency for a sudden
change in load demand by an amount is obtained as follows:

Procedure-

1. Start MATLAB/Simulink.
2. Drag and drop all important blocks required to construct given block diagram as shown in Fig.1.a.
3. Connect all blocks as shown in fig.1.a. And construct block diagram.
4. Put the desired values of all time constants and gains, change in power demand in each required blocks.
5. Check and verify results analytically by using formula
Problem: The parameters for load frequency control of a single area are

What is the dynamic response of the system?
