Effective Communication

Purpose
The purpose of this procedure is to emphasize & elaborate the importance
of effective two way communication in prevention of occupational
accidents/illnesses and achieving safety goals and objectives.

Communication Filters

1. Communication filters are perceptions – preconceptions, biases for or against various actions.
2. They can even block communication entirely.
3. The more a sender knows about the audience, the better he can predict and overcome these filters.
4. Before supervisors begin to speak or write a message to their employees, they should consider their
audience concerns, problems, knowledge levels, age ranges, and biases.
5. Some of the most common filters through which people perceive messages are knowledge level,
personal biases, moods and physical comfort levels.
