2a. Organizes, allocates, and manages the resources of time, space, and attention
I will demonstrate this FEAP by ensuring all students are together on carpet during instruction, using
the clock to keep pace of lesson, and reminding students of directions and expectations throughout the
lesson.
2c. Conveys high expectations to all students.
I will preface the lesson by clearly outlining my expectations of students during this lesson.
Through this routine I hope to effectively teach the students about the character traits of a hero and what
it means to be heroic.
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to identify and describe two character traits of a hero.
I will ask students to discuss the answer to the question: “What character traits did Katherine show that
made her heroic?”. They will be asked to discuss this with a shoulder partner. I will then ask for a pair to
share their answer. Then I will ask the whole group if anybody had a different answer. To ensure students
met my objectives, I will see active engagement and discussion, as well as participation in answering the
prompted question.
Prior to this lesson, students should have already read the text from their book: “Smokejumpers to the
Rescue!”, and they should already have an idea of what traits make a hero. Students have been learning
about character traits in ELA and have just begin their hero unit. This lesson will be an opportunity for
application of what they have already learned.
Prior to the lesson, I might emphasize the importance of their attention to the read aloud and ask for them
to be respectful and remain quiet/attentive.

10:00- I will begin by calling students to the carpet. I will do this by calling them table by
10:02 table.
Teacher - “Red table, please push in your chairs and meet me on the carpet quietly”
After everyone is called to the carpet and seated, I will review what the
10:02- expectations are.
10:05 - “Today I will be doing a read aloud with you all. I ask that we be
respectful during this read aloud so that everyone is able to hear and pay
attention to the story.”
I will then begin to preview the book by reviewing what they have learned the
10:05- past few days in ELA.
10:12 - “You all have been learning about what it means to be a hero. In the story
“Smokejumpers to the Rescue” you read about smokejumpers and how
they are heroic. Can anybody tell me what character traits make a
smokejumper heroic?”
I will then call on a student to answer. Afterwards, I will transition into the book.
- Similar to the smokejumpers, we are going to be reading about another
kind of hero through this book titled: “A Computer Called Katherine”, so
make sure you all are paying attention to the character traits of Katherine
and what might make her a hero.”
10:12- I will then proceed to read the book aloud.

After reading the book, I will ask the whole group to answer a question with a
10:22- partner.
10:30 - “Now, you are going to turn to a shoulder partner and answer the
question: “What is one character trait that Katherine showed that makes
her heroic?” Once you have finished answering the question just give me
a thumbs up!”
Students will then turn to their shoulder partner and begin discussing the
question. Once students are finished, they should give me a thumbs up and sit
quietly.
Once most students have their thumbs up, I will regather everyone’s attention
and bring the question back to the whole group.
- “Who wants to share what they discussed?”
10:30- I will then call on a student to share what they discussed with their partner. I will
10:32 then ask the whole class if anybody had a different answer. If so, I will ask them
to share as well.

If there are students who do not meet my expectations, I will gently remind them
of the expectations and directions verbally.
