When mounting the mechanical seal, surfaces over which O-
rings slide may be wetted with water or alcohol, in order to re-
duce friction forces.
Elastomers made of EP rubber must never come

into contact with mineral oil, due to their poor
chemical resistance.
Clean the seal faces with propyl alcohol and cellulose tissues
(no cloth, no cleaning rags). Do not touch the seal faces with na-
ked fingers afterwards.
Never apply lubricants to seal faces. Make sure that the seal
faces are absolutely dry, free from dust and clean during as-
sembly.
Insert springs 477.54 and mount seat ring 472.54 with the well-
greased O-ring (412.54) and backing ring 50-3.54 in the seal
cover 471.01. The parallel pins 562.54 must engage in the ho-
les of the seat ring.
Use O-ring 412.53 to prevent the assembly from separating.
Clean shaft protecting sleeve 524.01 and place gasket 411.32
onto the corresponding diameter of the shaft protecting sleeve.
Insert the rotating assembly (shaft protecting sleeve 524.01
with mounted seat ring 475.55 and O-rings 412.52/.55) into the
bearing bracket lantern 344 in such a way that the centering
shoulder on the shaft protecting sleeve’s external diameter pre-
vents radial displacement.

Install the complete stationary assembly (seal cover 471.01
and spring-loaded ring 472.54 plus the necessary springs and
other small parts).
Tighten bolts 921.21 in accordance with table 1.
Take care not to squeeze O-ring 412.15.

Slide bearing bracket lantern 344 with mounted mechanical
seal carefully onto the shaft end of the complete bearing
bracket 330 and fasten. Insert key 940.01, then check whether
the shaft can still be rotated easily by hand.

The torques given in the table are determined on the basis of a friction coefficient m = 0.12.

The torques indicated apply to the initial tightening of brand-new threads.

After repeated tightening of the threads and in case of good lubrication the values should be reduced by 15 to 20 %.

The values given in the table do not apply if general drawings or other instructions state different values.
