VELLORE INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

Vellore Institute of Technology was established in the year 1984
as Vellore Engineering College by the Chancellor,
Dr G. Viswanathan. It was conferred the university status in 2001
to recognize its excellence in academics, research and
extra-curricular initiatives. VIT has been ranked by MHRD NIRF
Ranking, Govt. of India as the 8th Best University in 2023. It has
achieved a rank of 173 in QS ASIA Ranking.

SCHOOL OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

The School of Chemical Engineering (SCHEME) is determined to nurture
new talents and create leaders and entrepreneurs who can bring value
addition to the chemical and allied process industries. The mission is to
drive excellence in Chemical Enginnering education and training. The
School has distinguished professors from reputed institutes from India
and abroad. SCHEME offers UG and PhD programs and also facilitates
many R&D and consultancy projects from government agencies including
DST, DBT and many reputed organizations.

IIChE-VIT
Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers(IIChE)-VIT Student Chapter is
dedicated to Undergraduate Chemical Engineering students. We not
only strive to advance our knowledge but also apply that knowledge to
practice and out into the real world.Our vision is to equip and
empower the future of chemical engineering and technology as a whole.
IIChE-VIT has the record of conducting 100+ events in a year
comprising of workshops, ideathons, quizzes, webinars and many other
engaging events.

ABOUT CONFERENCE
CHEM-SUMMIT’23 will be conducted by the IIChE-VIT chapter from
27th to 28th October. It will comprise of a guest lecture by the Chief Guest
followed by paper and poster presentation along with an engaging
technical event. It intents to bring together various chapters to work under
common interests and showcase their technical skills at a national conference.

The theme covers different disciplines of chemical engineering thereby offering

a platform to share their technical expertise on advanced and sustainable
processes and technologies. It will provide a great oppurtunity for the budding
chemical engineers to interact with different individuals and gain immense
knowledge and insights on some of the new research areas gaining prominence
currently. It aims to bring students from different parts of India to be a part of
a memorable experience for a span of two days. The winners of the respective
events will be awarded with cash prizes and certificates.

Mr. H. Shankar
Mr. H. Shankar (Technical Director, Chemical Petroleum Corporation
Limited) holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from
Osmania University, Hyderabad. He also holds a Master’s Degree in
Business Administration in General Management from Maharaja
Sayajirao University. He has nearly 3 decades of experience in the
areas of Engineering, Maintenance, Project Construction, Project
Management, Materials & Contracts Management and in-depth
knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment.

EVENTS

PAPER PRESENTATION
Date: 27th October 2023
Mode of conduct: Offline

Abstract submission: Participants are required to submit an abstract, based

on any of the given topics for the paper presentation event.
Selection process: Once abstracts are collected, the best abstracts will be
selected for the next round.
Presentation: Based on the number of submissions on each theme, the Event
will be divided into sessions. The time provided for each presentation and
discussion will be allotted depending on the number of submissions received.
Participants will have to present their research papers in front of the judging
panel.

Judging: The judging will be based on criteria such as creativeness, quality of

presentation, explanation, practicality, and fluency. Teams with the best
abstracts based on the overall score, considering all the judging criteria will
be declared as winners.

Team size: 1-3 members

Venue: Kamaraj Auditorium, 7th Floor, Technology Tower.

POSTER PRESENTATION

Date: 28th October 2023

Mode of conduct: Offline

ROUND 1: Participants need to come up with a modern solution under some specific catego-
ries provided. The abstract related to the given category is to be submitted by September
through mail. The best abstracts will be selected for the final round.

ROUND 2: Participants need to display their research on a poster board to share their work
with others. The poster which creates a visually appealing and informative display that
effectively communicates the key points of the research will be selected by our honourable
judging panel. Results will be announced on the valedictory function.

Team size: 1-3 members

Venue: Kamaraj Auditorium, 7th Floor, Technology Tower.

TECHNICAL EVENT
Name of the Event: Chem-Wiz
Date: 27th- 28th October 2023
Mode of conduct: Offline

CHEM-WIZ: “Chemi-wheel’21” and “Alchemy Cartel’22”, the 2 most exciting events from the
past tenure of IIChE-VIT, going to be recreated in this CHEM-SUMMIT’23 Conference that
will sparkle the minds of all participants.

Round 1: Chem-Wheel
Participants are requested to form a team of 3 people. Each team will have an opportunity
to spin the wheel consisting of numbers from 1 to 6. Each number indicates a product. The
team has to advertise their product in a span of 2 minutes. The best 10 advertisements will
be selected from this round.
Round 2: Rapid fire
The top 10 teams will be provided with cardboard that represents their team. Questions will
be common for everyone. The first team to come up with an answer will be awarded points.
The top 5 best scorers will be selected for the next round.

Round 3: Alchemy Cartel

Participants will enter a life sized board game. Each box will be allocated with a chemical
industry. Participants will spin the wheel to move forward and need to answer the
questions from the respective industry. For each right answer, points will be awarded and
a chance will be given to buy the place with their points. For each wrong answer, points
will be deducted and need to select a penalty card. The first one to finish the board game
will be declared as the winner.
