2. Location of Works
3. Materials
The major materials used for construction/installation of culverts work, but are
not limited to the following.
1500mm diameter reinforcement culvert class H with spigot and
spocket joint
Rubber Joint
Concrete G30
BRC A6
Steel T10
Granular aggeregate
Conventional formwork (plywood and timber)
Nail 2”, 2 1/2” and 1 1/2”
GI wire
The major equipment used for construction/installation of culverts, but are not
limited to the following.
Hand saw
Hammer
Electrical cutter (diamond cutter)
Plier
Crow bar
Metal trowel
Timber trowel

5. Machinery
The major equipment used for construction/installation of culverts, but are not
limited to the following.
Mobile Crane
JCB
Excavator
Concrete vibrators
Leveling instrument
Genset
1. The excavation for foundation bed for pipe culverts shall be done true
to the lines and grades shown on the drawing or in accordance to the
specifications.
2. 150mm excavation shall be taken down below the bottom level of the
pipe for aggregate placement.
3. Excavation shall consist removal of the material for the construction of
foundation in accordance with the requirement of specifications and the
lines and dimension shown on the drawings or as indicated by the
Engineer.
4. The works shall include draining and pumping. The removal of all logs,
stumps, grubs and other deleterious matter and obstructions,
necessary for placing the foundations, trimming of excavations,
backfiling and clearing up the site and disposal of all surplus material.
5. The Engineer will be requested to inspect & approve the excavation,
and necessary soft ground treatments carry out after all. The bed will
be prepared maintaining required levels as per the original construction
drawings approved by the Engineer and requested from the Engineer
to inspect and approve the surface.

6.2. Formworks
1. Formworks of required length and size shall be provided for laying and
placing of lean concrete layer.
2. Side formworks shall be used for concrete surround as well as the
head wall concrete works.
3. All material for formwork will confirm to applicable standards.
4. Formwork shall be remove not earlier the 24hours after placing the
concrete.
5. The design and erection of formwork shall be as per applicable
standard and conforming to the Technical Spesifications.
1. The arrangement for lowering the pipes in the bed shall be done
carefully so as not to cause damage or undue strain to the pipes,
preferably it shall be done by means of tripod, manual labour or by
cranes for loading, unloading & setting the pipes.
2. The laying of culvert pipes shall start from the outlet end & shall be
completed at the inlet end to specified lines & grades as specified in
the approved drawing.

6.6. Concreting Works for Slab, Wing wall, Head wall and Concrete
surround
7. Quality Control
1. All site personnel shall comply with the HSE procedures and
regulations.
2. The site personnel shall be in proper safety working attire at all times
during the construction period.
3. Regular maintenance checking shall be conducted to all machineries,
plants, equipment and scaffolding as working access at site
4. Safety and health measures shall be provide to safeguard all people
working at sites and particular attention shall be paid to the areas
which are near to the public.
5. All workers shall be equipped with Personal Protective Equipments.
Those personnel without PPE shall not be allowed to enter construction
site/ work area.
6. Environmental enactments and stipulations shall be observed and
there shall be no open burning.
7. There shall be control of diesel and lubricant spillage, machineries,
plants and equipment combustion emission, dust and noise release
(where it applies), through appropriate means.
8. The safety officer inspects several times to inspect safety matters.
