What are your insights from the movie about the roles of

administrators, teachers, and students in promoting schools as

agents of social changes and transformation?

“Madam Geeta Rani” is about the failing public school, the movie
unveils the school culture that displays issues that is relevant
and noticeable. The movie is about the new school principal who
will make the biggest decision of changing the school’s culture.
Madam Geeta Rani is a lieutenant colonel in an Indian Army, and a
public school principal and a builder of education system in
India. In short, she is the woman we educators must look up into.
She is the epitome of bravery and dedication. Her willingness and
dedication to give the school the best education and to reform
the school rules.

The new principal Madam Geeta Rani sees poor behavior from both
teachers and students. The teachers are not proficient in their
field. The staffs with authority would typically go out of the
school to run their personal errands in working hours. The
school’s vice principal has the authority of the whole school. He
tolerate the faculty members in their acts and behavior inside
the campus. There is no distinguished rule, everyone is a
rulebreaker. But with the presence of the new principal Madam
Geeta Rani, the change came starting from the rules, to the
students, to the structure of the school and to all the members
of the faculty. She introduces new constructive changes in the
school. The school administrators are looking after just about
themselves, they just want money or the salary but not performing
well as the students teachers. As a teacher, one should evoke
knowledge among his/her students. To facilitate the learning
inside the classrooms, to give them the lessons they must learn
in order for them to use it in real life and to be better as a
person. The students would not be as what they are in the movie
if the administrators and teachers are doing their respective
rules as the school’s authority lane and facilitators. As the
schools authority they should encourage students to learn and not
to be the reason of the students discouragement of absorbing the
knowledge they deserve. Teachers being not proficient enough is
not right. How can the students learn? If their teachers are not
knowledgeable enough to teach them. Undergoing the CPD
(Continuing Professional Development) may help them keep their
skills and knowledge up to date and to prepare them for greater
responsibilities as they face the diverse learners. In the movie,
Madam Geeta Rani instructed the teachers to study or to learn
more about the fields they are teaching so that they can be
proficient and knowledgeable. There is a teacher who commits
herself teaching the students all her life until her retirement.
Shushila is the teacher who has been in the school for the last
33 years. The internal commitment of the teachers can bring love,
desire and energy they need to perform better. The more committed
educators are in school, the more they become engaged with their
job. If academic institutions can make educators more committed,
these educators will have a higher chance of being engaged with
their job as a result the learners would acquire knowledge more.
A good school is characterized as being learner-centered. In the
beginning of the movie, the school is not learner-centered. The
learning of the learners are barely facilitated. But as the story
develops changes are being visible. The physical structure of the
school changes, reconstructed and become more lively. The school
become a learner-centered because the learning is facilitated by
the proficient teachers with enough knowledge in their fields.
Madam Geeta Rani as the highest authority of the school she make
collaborations among the teaches and the students. Their one goal
is to make changes and become a better school in the state. In
one scene in the movie, wherein Madam Geeta Rani call out all the
parents of the students to have an open communication or the PTA
meeting. There the parents give their opinions and the problems
they see in the school. Every parents cooperate for the same
goal, to change the school’s reputation in the state. The
cooperation and the collaborations between the teachers, the
students, and the parents with the guidance of Madam Geeta Rani
empowered the school to become better. As the school develops
from ineffective and useless school to effective with positive
environment and well manage classrooms, other forces outside the
school made their way to establish their school by discrediting
the school Madam Geeta Rani is operating. This force is what we
call the market force, this is where competitions happened
between two or more schools. Giving incentives for students to
enroll in their school, giving scholarships and etc. As the
antagonist of the story keep on thinking what he must to in order
to make Madam Geeta Rani out as the principal of the school other
forces takes place. Cultural force partake the challenges Madam
Geeta Rani is facing. The political views of the community makes
the school population divided into two. Truthfully, politics
does really has an effect in the school community and so is the
cultural beliefs of every people. That is why, teachers do really
need to not be biased when it comes to political views and to
respect one’s cultural beliefs and traditions.

Together, with the collaboration and cooperation of everyone

these can make big difference in a specific nature, and well
specially to the schools where the students’ knowledge are hone.
Forces inside of the campus premises has a great effect in the
development of the school and the students if given an essential
direction to follow. While outside forces would make the school
suffer more if the authority inside the school let it happen.
This movie Madam Geeta Rani presents different forces that helps
and challenges the school. “We’ll happily learn everything. We’ll
learn together. We’ll learn with courage. We’ll prove ourselves
to the world.” This was quoted by Madam Geeta Rani, this simply
means that school is the power of the students. For schools are a
vital source of knowledge and innovations, and the warehouse of
information. I believe that with the right administration and
proficient teachers a school can produce a well-mannered,
knowledgeable and dedicated professionals in the future. Madam
Geeta Rani teaches us to have the strength to face the different
challenges and to stand against all the odds with bravery and
dedication.
