Edge sts:
Each side of the work, 2 edge sts are knit every row. These sts are not shown in the charts, but
they are included in the written pattern.

Charts:
The charts show RS rows only.
All WS rows are purled, except for a few that are knit. These few exceptions are explained when
you get to them. Remember that the first and last 2 sts are always knit, and double yo’ers are
worked k1, p1 (or p1, k1 if you prefer).

Size: It is possible to work the shawl in two sizes. For the large size, work all the rows as
described. For the smaller size, work only rows 1-6 of chart A before moving on to chart B.
Numbers given in (parenthesis) are for the smaller size.

Begin the shawl like this:

CO 7 sts using MC and knit 2 rows. Now begin working the charts.

Chart A:
In chart A you will be asked to repeat the same chart rows several times, only with more and
more repeats of the sts in the repeat box. (Please note, the first row in the chart is only worked
once!)
Always follow the row numbers to the right of the chart, tick off the rows as you finish them or
write down which row you’re on, so you don’t get lost.

Chart B:
Before you begin, place markers around the center stitch. Then work first part of row 31 until
you reach the center stitch marker, slide marker and knit center st, slide second marker and
then continue with the second half of the pattern until you run out of sts.
On row 41, place st markers around the double YO.

Chart C (Next page):

Chart C has several different repeat boxes on each row. Keep the stitch markers around the
triangle repeat box, that will help you keep track.

Begin by repeating the pink box like you did in chart B.

When you reach the center triangle, work the triangle repeat box twice.
This means that you will have double yo’ers on some rows. Treat these like all other double
yo’ers, that is, on the return row work them k1, p1.

On the other side of the center triangle, work the pink repeat box like in chart B again.

double yo in the middle on row 89. After row 89, you will have 289 (241) sts on your needles.

Written pattern: SM=Slide marker, Sts marked with bold=place bead on stitch after working it. Notations like this: (k1,yo)x4 means you
should repeat the sts in the parenthesis 4 times before moving on.

Chart H:
Work the entire chart H using CC1. You no longer need to keep track of the center stitch, but
you can place new markers around the middle repeats if it helps you.
In that case, markers will move on rows 127 and 133.

Chart H was too large for the page, and has therefore been divided into a right side, middle
repeat and left side. Right side is worked first, then middle repeat is repeated until you only have
enough sts left to work the left side, then you work the left side.

With yarn held double (CC2) first k2. Slide the two sts back onto left needle, p2tog. *k1, slide 2
sts back onto left needle, p2tog* repeat from * to * until all sts have been BO. Cut yarn and pull
end through the last st to secure it.

You can also work the BO in single yarn if you want a lighter edge.

Weave in ends and block shawl to your satisfaction.

Blocking your shawl:

Soak shawl in lukewarm water for a few minutes, roll in towel without agitating to remove
excess water, pin out to your satisfaction on flat surface (not water bed) and allow to dry
completely before unpinning.

Wear with pride!
