INTRODUCTION

A. Background
Indonesia, as a country with a variety of development potentials and
challenges, requires an active role and contribution from all elements of
society. One of the elements that has a strategic role in realizing the vision of
a developed Indonesia is students. Students, as the young generation who
are currently studying at universities, have great potential to help overcome
various development conflicts and encourage the nation's progress. Students
can be defined as individuals who are studying at universities, both public
and private, or at tertiary level educational institutions. They should not only
be recipients of knowledge, but should also be agents of change who play an
active role in monitoring and assisting Indonesia's development. The role of
students as development supervisors is an important responsibility that they
must carry out. Society considers students to have higher knowledge and
thinking, as a result their expectations of students' role in development are
greater. Students are said to have the ability to voice people's aspirations
into a critical and objective conscience. Apart from that, students are also
obliged to act as agents of change or bringers of change. With critical,
analytical and creative thinking, they have the potential to make a positive
contribution to development, including providing innovative ideas that can
help overcome complex development challenges. In this paper, we will
discuss further the role of students in realizing a developed Indonesia,
including the concept of their role as agents of change, supervisors of
development, and drivers of positive change. Through critical thinking,
analysis, and active donations in various aspects of development, students
can become a positive force that helps achieve national development goals.
By understanding the important role of students in Indonesia's development,
we can better understand how this young generation can contribute to
creating positive change and help realize the vision of an advanced and
prosperous Indonesia.

1
B. Problem Formulation

In the context of the role of students in realizing a developed Indonesia, there

are several problems that need to be identified and researched further.

Therefore, the problem formulation that will be discussed in this paper is as

follows:
1. What is the role of students in realizing a developed Indonesia, especially in the

context of development?

2. How can the role of students as agents of change help advance

development in Indonesia?
3. How can students act as development supervisors to assess the success of
development programs?
4. How can student service in remote and underdeveloped areas advance
these areas and support national development?
In answering the problem formulation above, this paper will outline the role of
students as agents of change, supervisors of development, and drivers of positive
change. Apart from that, it will be explained how the role of students can help in
overcoming various challenges in Indonesia's development and achieving the vision
of an advanced and prosperous Indonesia.

DISCUSSION

A. The Role of Students in Making Indonesia Advanced

The role of students in realizing a developed Indonesia, especially in the
context of development, is an important element in achieving sustainable
progress.
Siswoyo (2007) defines students as individuals who study at universities, both
public and private. Students are considered by society as sources of
intellectual potential who have the ability to make significant contributions to
development. In the context of the role of students as agents of change,
Arsad Ismail (2013) states that students have critical and analytical thinking
which must be used to make constructive contributions to development.
Students have the potential to bring positive change in various aspects of
national life, including formulating solutions to existing problems.

Real Examples of the Role of Students in Making Indonesia Advanced:

a. Technology Application Development

Information engineering students at several Indonesian universities have

created technology applications that help solve problems in the fields of health,
education and the environment.
Examples include the development of mobile health applications that make it easier
for people to access health information, as well as online learning applications that
help bring education closer to remote areas.

b. Agricultural Innovation

Agricultural students in rural areas are involved in developing more efficient

and sustainable agricultural techniques. They introduced organic farming
techniques, the use of green manure, and more efficient irrigation methods, helping
farmers in remote areas increase their crop yields and prosperity.

3
B. The role of students as agents of change
The role of students as agents of change is an important role in
realizing an advanced Indonesia. Students, with critical and analytical
thinking, have great potential to bring positive change in various aspects of
development. They have a role as the voice of society, and for example, Arsad
Ismail (2013) explains that "students are considered by society as people who
have higher education than others, so they believe that students are able to
express their aspirations as a form of their conscience."

Students must have the courage to express their opinions directly to the

government if the development carried out is detrimental to the people or is not in

accordance with the development objectives.

Real Examples of the Role of Students as Agents of Change:

a. Protest Against Government Policy

Students are often the driving force in protests against government
policies that are considered detrimental to society.
An example is student demonstrations demanding the fulfillment of
government promises related to fuel prices or environmental issues, which
trigger changes in government policy.

b. Humanity Project
Students are involved in humanitarian projects in areas affected by
natural disasters or conflict. They assist in providing humanitarian aid,
including the distribution of food, clean water, and medical aid, proving that
students can be agents of positive change in crisis situations.

C. The role of students as development supervisors

The role of students as development supervisors is an important
responsibility that they carry out. Students have the ability to provide
objective assessments of various development programs. They can too

4
provide constructive input to the government to improve programs that have
not achieved targets.
In this context, Laili Marum (2015) stated that "students can be
assessors of the success of the development that has been carried out."

Real examples of how students act as development supervisors:

a. Research and Evaluation of Government Programs

Students in the fields of social sciences and economics often carry out
research and evaluation of government programs. They test the effectiveness of
these programs and provide recommendations to the government for
improvement.

b. Infrastructure Project Monitoring

Civil engineering or project management students can be involved in

monitoring government infrastructure projects. They ensure that the
projects comply with the plans and budget that have been set.

D. The Role of Students in Service to Remote and Disadvantaged Areas

Apart from their role as agents of change and development
supervisors, students can also play a role in advancing remote and
underdeveloped areas. These areas often have potential that has not been
optimally utilized. Students can make a contribution by carrying out long-
term service and training for the local community. Through this training,
people will have the ability and independence to run their own business. Holil
(2009) explains that "students can undertake regular training until the
community has the ability and independence to pursue development." With
students' active role as agents of change, development supervisors, and
drivers of positive change, they can make important contributions in
achieving national development goals.
In the context of Indonesia's development, the role of students is very important

and must be continued to create positive change and realize the vision of an advanced

and prosperous Indonesia.

Real Examples of Student Service for Remote and Disadvantaged Areas:

5
a. Entrepreneurship training

Students from the field of business management or entrepreneurship

often provide entrepreneurship training to communities in remote areas.
They teach business, financial management, and marketing skills that help
people start small businesses.

b. Online Learning in Remote Areas

Education students can help education in remote areas by organizing
online learning programs. They teach students in remote areas through
online platforms, helping them access quality education without having to
move to big cities.

The examples above show how students actively play a role in various
aspects of Indonesia's development, from technological development to
social action, research and service to remote areas. Their role as agents of
change, supervisors of development, and mobilizers of service have a
significant impact on the progress of this nation.

CHAPTER III

CLOSING
A. Conclusion
Students have a very important role in making Indonesia progress,
especially in the context of development. In this context, several key points
can be concluded:
1. The role of students as agents of change
Students have a role as bringers of change in society. They bring
the critical, analytical and innovative thinking needed to overcome
problems in development. Their active participation in student
organizations and activities is a forum for developing soft skills that are
important in bringing about change.

2. The role of students as development supervisors

Students can act as development supervisors by providing
objective assessments of the success or failure of development programs.
Critical and analytical evaluation from students can help the government
to improve existing programs.

3. Student Service for Remote and Disadvantaged Areas

Students can also play a role in serving remote and
underdeveloped areas. Through long-term training, they can help people
in the area to increase their abilities and independence in various fields,
including entrepreneurship. The role of students as agents of change,
supervisors of development, and mobilizers of service has a significant
impact on national development. Students are a valuable resource that
can help overcome various challenges and drive progress in various
development sectors.

Therefore, it is important for students to be proactive towards the

Indonesian government and society and play an active role in realizing the vision of

an advanced and prosperous Indonesia.
