1. Introduction
FD Grip M type is a rebar joint system that consists of a steel tube (sleeve: made of sheet metal drawing) with
set screws and the injection of the special grout (Estogrout MP90 ) to enhance the joint strength. Special care
must be taken to monitor the insertion length of rebars into the sleeve as well as control and handling of
Estogrout MP90 in order to achieve the specified joint strength.

Before using the FD grip M type, please read this manual (Installation Manual) . Keep this manual in an
easily accessible place for future reference.

2. Check tools and equipment

Estogrout MP90 (25 kg/bag)

Check if the quantity (number of bags) required is prepared.
Check production date and lot number.

Kneading machine (Hand mixer)

Check if power (220V) is available.
Check if the machine rotates when the power is turned.
Check if the pail (20ℓ) is available.
Check if the cleaning bucket (2 pieces) is filled with water.

Hand Pump
Check the lever and diaphragm movement.
Check hose connection

 Injection nozzle (in the tool box)
Ensure no deformation or collapse at the nozzle tip.
Check if the valve movement is smooth.

3. Installation process
Installation works shall be carried out in the following order.
3.1 Marking and setting of sleeve
3.2 Preparation of Estogrout MP90
3.3 Mixing of Estogrout MP90
3.4 Flow value test of Estogrout MP90
3.5 Preparation of pump
3.6 Injection of Estogrout MP90
3.7 Cleaning of tools and equipment

3.1 Marking and setting of sleeve

1. Mark the insertion points of reinforcing bars and set the sleeve. (Use the Spray marking jig compatible
with the sleeve size.)
※ Use the sleeve for different diameter rebars where jointing the different diameter rebars (Different
diameter).
(Smaller diameter side with small hole rubber seal and long set screw)

※ Touch up the burrs and bends at the ends of rebars.

※ Do not to cut the rubber seal.
※ For different diameter sleeve, types of sleeves are marked in the label inside box/drum.

2. Move the sleeve to the position marked, then tighten the set screws with hex wrench.

※ The sleeve ends must be positioned on the marking.

※ Make sure the rebars joined align in a straight line

※ Securely tightening the set screws.

 (Note)
The sleeve setting is now completed, the following are the important points to be observed:
- Mt51 used in a vertical position shall be oriented to make the injection valve located at the lower
part.
- In the case of a rebar cage, marking should be done before the fabrication of the cage.
- If the rebar is wet, the marking shall be done after wipe off the wet completely.
- In the case of the main rebars of a column, tighten the set screws while checking the vertical
alignment.
- The orientation of the injection valve shall be selected for the easy direction of injection works.
- Wrap with vinyl tape, etc., if a rubber seal has expired.

3.2 Preparation of Estogrout MP90

Record the situation and status of the manufacturing of Estogrout MP90 in the report on the quality control of
installation at the start of every day's work. (If a different lot number of grout is used, record this in the report
on the quality control of installation.)

※Please observe the notes on cautions and storage attached on the back of a bag when handling
Estogrout MP90.

Explanation of terms used in the report.

・Batch Number: Indicated on the portion shown in the photograph.

・Expired Date : 1 year from the production date.
・Amount of Water: To be used to knead the Estogrout MP90 (Standard
amount of water: 3.80 liter/bag).
・Ambient temperature: Outside air temperature.
・Water temperature: Temperature of water.
・Material temperature: Temperature of powder grout contained in the bag.
・Slurry temperature: Temperature of mixed grout.
・Flow value measurement jig: Please refer to item 3.4.

(Note)
As Estogrout MP90 is a type of cement, please observe the following points.
- Check for abnormalities in the appearance of the bag (tear, wetting and leak) at the time of
preparation of Estogrout MP90 and make sure that the grout is not hardened.
- Estogrout MP90 shall be fully cured for storage as the storage conditions are extremely important
for keeping its quality.

3.3 Mixing of Estogrout MP90

1. Measure the amount of water by a measuring cylinder

※ The standard 3.80 liter shall be measured as the total of three times of 1000ml and 800ml.
※ The measured water shall be kept in the plastic tank.

3. Set the mixer as shown in the photo, pour the measured water 3.80 liter into the bucket. Pour Estogrout
MP90 gradually then Mix and knead for 3 minutes. (Use a timer to measure the mixing and kneading
time).
During the mixing and kneading, Estogrout MP90 adhering around the bucket shall be scraped off with
a brush.
4. After the lapse of 5 minutes, measure the slurry temperature. The mixed grout may be transferred to a
pail when mixing more than one bag.
(Note)
The mixing of Estogrout MP90 is complete, please be reminded the following important points:
- Measuring of water must be strictly follow as specified. (The standard amount of water is 3.80
liter/bag. Specified value is between 3.70 liter and 3.90 liter/bag)
- The strength of grout becomes less if water is used more than the specified quantity.
- The mixing of grout is always carried out per unit of one bag.
- Make sure that no rainwater gets into the drum during the mixing.
- In the case of a continuous mixing of grout for more than one bag, clean the bucket after each
mix either using a waste cloth or wash off with water (wipe out water completely after wash).
- Make sure no hardened grout or foreign matter enters in the mixed grout. Remove, if any,
hardened grout or foreign matter is in the mixed grout.
- Mixing must start within 30 minutes after the opening of the bag.
- When pouring Estogrout MP90 into bucket, make sure to do it slowly between 30 seconds
– 1minute while mixing it continuously, pouring Estogrout MP90 too fast can make lumps
or clumps under the bucket after mixing due to grout did not mix completely.

3.4 Flow value test of Estogrout MP90

Flow value test must be carried out at the starting time of the work every day. The flow value test and
report on the quality control are the important management items to prove the jointing capacity of FD grip
M type.

※Flow value test is mandatory
1. Place a glass plate horizontally using a level gauge and set a flow value measurement cylinder on the
center of the glass. Fill the cylinder completely with the mixed grout.

2. Measure the spread (flow) of Estogrout MP90 after 1 minutes from the time of lifting the cylinder
straight up. Flow value is the mean value in mm of longitudinal and latitudinal dimensions of the spread
of the grout.

※ The surface condition of the glass plate will affect the results of flow value test significantly.
・ Use a dedicated glass plate that is available as a fixture.
・ Check the horizontal of a glass plate using a level gauge.
・ Wipe off dirt, sweat, etc. from the surface of glass plate.
・ If the glass plate is hot, a measurement should only be carried out after cooling the glass plate with
water.
・ Testing shall be avoided during strong wind.
※ The value of the flow shall be within the following range.
・ Flow value: Between 210 mm to 260 mm

3.5 Preparation of pump

3.5.1 Hand Pump

A pump with a diaphragm movement achieved by moving the pump handle up and down manually.

1. Prepare priming (Thinner Estogrout MP90) by mixing the same weight of Estogrout MP90 and water.
2. Pour the priming of ① to the hopper and move the handle down. After all priming moves to the
injection side of the hose move the handle up, insert about half of the the mixed grout into the hopper
and observe that Estogrout MP90 is pumped up.
3. Confirm that the Estogrout MP90 is flowing smoothly through the hose and stop the pull after making
sure that end of the priming and Estogrout MP90 is discharged from the end of the injection side of
the hose.
4. Fix the nozzle. (Do not tighten too tight as the nozzle shall be removed for cleaning.)
5. Move the handle down and check Estogrout MP90 is discharged from the tip of the nozzle.

3.6 Injection of Estogrout MP90

3.6.1 Squeeze Pump MM-08 Injection Process

Injection of Estogrout MP90 to the sleeve shall be carried out by inserting the nozzle into the injection
valve at the center of the sleeve (For Mt51, the valve position may be at the end of sleeve).
※ Please follow the following procedures:

1. Set the speed controller in accordance with the type of the sleeve. (Table below)
2. Insert the nozzle straight into the sleeve.
3. Open the valve nozzle.
4. Turn the Forward/Stop/Reverse switch to “Forward”. (Pump rotates and start injection)
5. Confirm the overflow of Estogrout MP90 from the checking hole.
6. Turn the Forward/Stop/Reverse switch to “Stop” position. (Pump stops and this in turn stops the
injection)
7. Close the cock of the nozzle.
8. Pull out the nozzle slowly. (During the removal of the nozzle, a twisting movement may cause
detachment or damage of the valve )
9. Nozzle tip shall be cleaned with your fingertips to remove dirt or remaining Estogrout MP90.

The filling of Estogrout MP90 is confirmed by observing the overflow from the checking holes that are
positioned at left or right and upper or lower side. Sufficient grout must be filled.
※ Setting values of speed controller shall be as shown in the table below.
(The hose may be ruptured when a higher speed more than the speed shown in the table is used.)

3.6.2 Hand Pump Injection Process

Injection of Estogrout MP90 to the sleeve shall be carried out by inserting the nozzle into the injection
valve at the center of the sleeve (For Mt51, the valve position may be at the end of sleeve).

※ Please follow the following procedures:

1. Prepare the mixer and fill the grout into hopper.

2. Insert the nozzle straight into the sleeve.
3. Open the valve nozzle.
4. Move the pump handle up and down to draw the frout mixture from the hopper throught the pump
and out the clear placement hose to the sleeve. Never force the pump handle!!
5. Confirm the overflow of Estogrout MP90 from the checking hole.
6. Move the handle up to make sure the injection has stop.
7. Close the cock of the nozzle.
8. Pull out the nozzle slowly. (During the removal of the nozzle, a twisting movement may cause
detachment or damage of the valve )
9. Nozzle tip shall be cleaned with your fingertips to remove dirt or remaining Estogrout MP90.

3.7 Cleaning of tools and equipment

Cleaning of tools and equipment after the work is troublesome, but it is the most important work to ensure
trouble free performance of the next work.
※ Please follow the procedures as described below for cleaning works:
(Any damage and breakdown of the tools and/or equipment arising from the obvious lack of
proper cleaning of the tools and equipment, you will be held responsible and charged the actual
cost incurred for repair and reinstatement of the tools and/or equipment)

 ・ The tools used for test shall be cleaned immediately.
・ Kneading machine (mixer) must be cleaned upon completion of mixing of required number of bags.
・ Estogrout MP90 remaining in the hose of the injection pump shall be cleaned thoroughly. (Clean in
the sequence of the suction side hose → inside of the pump → injection side hose. Clean up with
water using the sponge.) In case of hand pump it doesn’t need to be clean by sponge.
・ Remaining water in the hose of the injection pump shall be pumped out completely.
・ The dirt on the outside of the pump shall be cleaned by wiping with waste cloth. (Do not splashing
water on the pump during the cleaning, as the pump is an electrical equipment and water may cause
damage and failure.)
・ The nozzle shall be cleaned thoroughly.
(Dismantle the nozzle and take out the ball from the valve and clean the ball.)
※ Upon the completion of cleaning works, check the tools, equipment, apparatus, and devices
using the check list of the installation tools and equipment. (Replenish of the missing tools and/or
equipment during the installation works is not possible. So, checking the tools and equipment must
be carried out properly.)

(Note)
Thank you very much for cleaning of the tools and equipment.
- Cleaning is time consuming work but it is the most important work. Proper cleaning works are the first
step to ensure a reliable and adequate works of the next day.
- When the cleaning works have been finished, the installation tools and equipment shall be covered with
the plastic sheet to protect from rain water.
