Personal Statement

I am Caleb Gunderman, I have 5 brothers and 2 sisters, and I have been living in

humboldt for 2 years, I moved here from Shawnee. I lived in Shawnee for all of my life

before moving down to humboldt. I have been learning a lot about computer science for

6 years now and it is what I plan to go to college for in the next year.

I have always done well in school but what I am always on top of is computer

classes like computer science and coding classes. I took spanish for four years, I was

planning to take 6 years of spanish but Humboldt only offers up to spanish two, I wish

that I could stay in my old school for at least until I graduated so I had a chance to learn

what I needed to learn to proceed in my dream job. One thing I struggle with in school is

understanding the assignment given to me. I will struggle to understand something even

if someone gave me step by step instructions to do something. That's why things like

English and social studies were the most difficult classes for me. Out of school, I joined

a program that goes around town to pick up cardboard boxes from businesses so that

they don’t just have a lot of cardboard laying around. I do this once a month.

Next year I plan to go on to proceed in my dreams in working on cybersecurity by

taking cybersecurity classes in college. I will be attending the University of Kansas for 4

years to get my degree in Cybersecurity. I want to learn about cybersecurity because

when I was introduced to it, it was the most interesting thing I have seen and seemed

like something I’d be good at. At my old high school, Shawnee Mission South high

school, we had a class that had someone come in from a cybersecurity company to

show us how to start coding to protect information in a system. That was my first

introduction to cybersecurity, and I loved it.

 After I am done with college, I will be going to get a job with a company needing

a person to secure their websites and things online to make sure it is safe to use. I plan

to be the best at my job and to stay in the job for as long as possible without changing

jobs unless I get a higher pay. I need a high paying job so I am not struggling to get

through a week of living.

I will be doing the most I can to make sure my life is successful and so that I am

not struggling a lot to be able to continue in whatever I want to do. I feel that I am a

worthy applicant for the scholarship because I will not disappoint and I will see college

all the way through and won’t leave until I am completely done with my studies and I get

a job that I will like and includes what I studied in college.
