5.0 Loading Software

5.1 Recording Instrument Settings Before a Software Upgrade or Image
The topics outlined in this section summarize activities that are to be performed before
the Software Upgrade and if possible before Imaging the Hard Drive. Refer to the
appropriate Field Bulletin, Operation Manual, Service Manual, or contact CSD Technical
Support at "CSD_TechSupport@Bio-Rad.com" for more detailed information on any of
these topics.
The Software Settings Checklist in this section references the steps below. Follow
these steps and record the settings on the checklist before Upgrading or Imaging the
software to insure that the instrument can be returned to operation in its current state.
1. If the instrument is operational, print the Settings Report and Lot Info Reports
for both the A1c and A2F Assays. Record the Reporting Units (NGSP or
IFCC) and LIS/Data/Cal/Cont Unit” settings on the checklist.
2. Instrument.ini File
 Upgrading the software on a working instrument:
 The software upgrade does not overwrite the instrument.ini or the
instrumentRC.ini files. Verify that a current hard copy of the
instrument.ini file is attached to the inside of the left side door.
From the Service Software, go to the Miscellaneous 2/3 Print
screen and use the Print File routine to print a hard copy for
verification or to attach to the door if it is missing.
 Imaging the Hard Drive:
 Service Software is Operational - Export the Instrument.ini and if
connected to a rack loader the InstrumentRC.ini files to a USB
memory device (Refer to section 3.3.2 for details).
 Service Software is not Operational but the operator can access
files with Windows. Use Windows Explorer to export copies of the
Instrument.ini and if connected to a rack loader the
InstrumentRC.ini files to a USB memory device (Refer to section
3.2 for details).
 Instrument is not operational – A hard copy of the instrument.ini
file located on the left side door will be used to rebuild the file
after Imaging (Section 5.4.2 for details)

3. Patient Results
 Patient Results when Upgrading the software on a Working instrument
 If it is acceptable to the Customer, clear the results to the D: drive
before the upgrade. In this way previous results are archived and
the upgraded Dia software begins with a blank Data List.
 If the customer prefers that past results remain on the data list,
nothing is needed to be done before the Upgrade. Check the
“Keep Existing Results” checkbox during the upgrade
procedure. Results will not be cleared or deleted.
 Customer Results when Imaging the Hard Drive on a Working
instrument.
Place a Flash Drive into the USB port. Use one of the methods
described in sections 3.3 or 3.3 to Export or Copy files.
 A1c Results – Copy the “C:\Dia\A1c\Results” folder to the Flash
Drive.
 A2f Results - Copy the “C:\Dia\BThal\Results” folder to the Flash
Drive.
 Archived Results – Copy the “D:\DiaClear” folder to the Flash
Drive.
 Customer Results when Imaging the Hard Drive on a Non-working
instrument.
If the Hard Drive has failed and it is not possible to run Windows or
the Dia software on the D-10 then it may not be possible to retrieve the
data. It may be possible to remove the drive and using an External
USB Drive Enclosure access the files from a Laptop Computer. If this
is possible copy the files listed above from the drive.

8. Degasser Vacuum Settings

Degasser vacuum will return to default settings the first time the
instrument boots. The buffer within the degasser will be subjected to the
default vacuum of 50 KPa. If the Reagent kit will not be replaced and the
vacuum level has been reduced to run at high altitude, the degasser vacuum
must be prevented from achieving the higher default vacuum before the lower
value can be set. Follow the steps as instructed in the table below to set the
lower level without subjecting the buffer in the degasser to the higher default
vacuum.
If the Buffer in the degasser is inadvertently subjected to the higher default
vacuum during boot up the overly degassed buffer must be removed from the
degasser before running. Using the pump purge port remove 40ml of both
Buffers 1 and 2 from the degasser before running samples. Refer to Field
Bulletin 2008-041 for further information.
