In the study conducted by Naghawi and Alajarmeh, the researchers explore the

possibility of plastic waste as an asphalt binder modifier in asphalt pavement. Other studies

have used other components to enhance the durability of asphalt potentially. However, the

research gap of this study is its utilization of recycled tire rubber as a modifier to enhance the

durability of asphalt pavement. Using waste products to produce asphalt mixtures has become

prevalent because of economic and environmental benefits. However, this study will use tire

rubbers as 28 percent of microplastics in the ocean come from tires shedding synthetic rubber

as they break down.

The findings of this study shall help pave the way for innovating the construction

industry by providing safe, environment-friendly, and cost-effective solutions regarding

modified asphalt rubber mixtures. Furthermore, this research shall add to the knowledge from

previous studies tackling this topic. Moreover, the following shall reap the benefits of this study

to its fullest extent. The data gathered from this study will provide information that will

significantly impact the industry financially, economically, and environmentally. The results

gathered will help companies transition to rubber-modified asphalt to gain financial and

economic benefits. This study will also help the school develop its engineering programs. This

research will support innovative approaches to improving knowledge, abilities, and attitudes,

preparing engineers for future global competition. Also, this research will increase

understanding of engineering management and school management. Lastly, researchers

interested in engineering research will find this paper useful as a resource. This will act as a

roadmap for expanding the research and making the connection to the factors employed.

The extensive usage of plastics improves daily living and supports economic and social

progress. The growing need for plastics has harmed the environment due to its negative effects.

One of the most commonly utilized plastics is tire rubber, the main component that the

researchers will utilize to enhance the asphalt mixture. Adding plastics into asphalt mixtures is

another way to benefit the environment while also increasing asphalt longevity, as it can

significantly improve high-temperature performance. Other varieties of waste plastic, on the

other hand, have significantly diverse properties primarily influenced by chemical

composition, chemical structure, and average molecular weight. As a result, it is critical to

determine if the use of tire rubber would be more useful in improving the longevity of asphalt

pavement. Through this, the study aims to answer the following:

1. To ascertain the viability of recycled tire rubber (RTR) as a pavement material

modification.
2. To determine if modified recycled rubber asphalt will attain greater durability than the

standard mixture.

3. To test the economic and environmental efficiency of adding rubberized asphalt

mixture.

This study aims to assess the durability of modified rubber asphalt compared to the

conventional asphalt mixture. Also, evaluating its economic and environmental benefits shall

be the concepts in this study. Furthermore, the study shall be conducted in the Civil,

Environmental, and Geological Engineering facilities located at Mapua University. The

research will require keen observation; thus, the researchers shall implement an experimental

analysis. Moreover, the researchers are given three months to conduct this study to assess the

durability of modified rubber asphalt.

However, shortcomings are imminent as the researchers are subject to accomplishing

the study in three months, where mistakes are bound to be made. In addition, limited budgeting

will be another factor in the shortcomings of this research as the researchers only have limited

funding. Lastly, the insufficient sample size will be due to the limited funding.
