English Month Activity Plan

Rationale:

This month-long celebration provides the activities that would develop students’ reading, speaking,
viewing, and writing skills. Thus, this celebration also promotes cultural awareness and appreciation
through reading different world Literature.

The phrase "English as a Global Language: Bridging Cultures, Connecting the World, Strengthening
Communication" encapsulates the concept of English serving as a unifying and connecting force in our
increasingly interconnected world. It highlights that English has become a common means of
communication across diverse cultures and nations. As a global lingua franca, it facilitates understanding
and cooperation among people from different linguistic backgrounds, promoting cross-cultural interactions
and bridging the divides that language barriers can create. In essence, this statement underscores the pivotal
role of English in fostering global communication, cultural exchange, and the facilitation of international
collaboration.

Theme: “English as a Global Language: Bridging Cultures, Connecting the World, Strengthening

 To boost students’ confidence in speaking the English language,
 To deepen students’ appreciation of different culture through reading books,
 To enrich students’ writing and speaking skills through communicative approach activity and;

ENGLISH MONTH ACTIVITY MECHANICS

1. SPELLING BEE
When: 2:30 PM, November 23, 2023
Where: Category A – Grade 3 Classroom
Category B – Grade 6 Classroom
Category C – Grade 7 Classroom

Mechanics:
 Every Grade Level shall have 3 participants for this Contest. However, they will not be participating as
a group rather will be counted individually.
 Advisers will prepare their ¼ size illustration board and chalk.
 The Spelling Master will say the word twice with its corresponding meaning and the pupils will spell
the word on the illustration board.
 A time limit of 15 seconds will be given to the participants for each word.
 For category A and B, there will be 5 words for EASY ROUND, 5 for AVERAGE ROUND, and 5 for
DIFFICULT ROUND.
 For Category C, there will be 10 words for the EASY ROUND, 5 for AVERAGE ROUND, and 5
words for the DIFFICULT ROUND.
 Each round corresponds to a certain point: EASY – 1 point, AVERAGE – 3 points, and DIFFICULT –
5 pts.
 The participant who got the most scores after the three rounds will be the winner.

2. POSTER MAKING
When : 2:30 PM, November 23, 2023
Where: School Stage

Mechanics:
 Every Grade Level shall have 2 participants for this Contest.
 Advisers will prepare their illustration board and coloring materials.
 The participants will illustrate/draw the given theme/concept for the English Month Celebration.
 A time limit of 1 hour will be given to the participants.

3. WORD SEARCH
When: 2:30 PM, November 23, 2023
Where: Grade 4 Classroom

Mechanics:
 Every Grade Level shall have 1 participant for this Contest.
 The participants will be given a word search puzzle, and they will look for the given words one by one.
 The participant with the most number of searched words will be the winner.
 A time limit of 30 minutes will be given to the participants.

4. POSTER-SLOGAN MAKING CONTEST


When: 2:30 PM, November 23, 2023
Where: School Stage/ Canopy 1

Mechanics:
 Every Grade Level shall have 2 participants for this Contest.
 Advisers will prepare their illustration board and coloring materials.
 The participants will illustrate/draw the given theme/concept for the English Month Celebration. After
which, the participants will create/write a slogan out from the poster they have drawn.
 A time limit of 1 hour will be given to the participants.

5. POEM WRITING CONTEST


When: 2:30 PM, November 23, 2023
Where: School Stage/Canopy 2

Mechanics:
 Each section must have 2 representatives. However, they will not join as a pair rather will be
counted individually.
 The participant shall write a poem about a certain theme. The theme will be revealed during
the contest proper.
 The poem shall be written in English language with a minimum of 4 stanzas, and each stanza
shall have 4 lines.
 The poem will be written in an A4 sized bond paper.

6. POEM INTERPRETATION CONTEST


When: 2:30 PM, November 28, 2023
Where: Grade 3 Classroom

Mechanics:
 Every Grade Level shall have 1 participant for this Contest.
 Each participant will be given the same piece.
 They will memorize and analyze the tone/mood of the poem and add their
interpretation/action to it.

7. INTERPRETATIVE READING CONTEST


When: 2:30 PM, November 28, 2023
Where: Grade 3 Classroom

Mechanics:
 Every Grade Level shall have 1 participant for this Contest.
 Each participant will be given the same piece.
 Participants will memorize and analyze the tone/mood of the piece.
 Use of correct pronunciation/enunciation is highly suggested as well as proper pacing and
rhythm.

8. DECLAMATION CONTEST
When: 2:30 PM, November 29, 2023
Where: School Stage

Mechanics:
 Each section shall have 1 representative.
 The participants shall deliver a declamation piece of their choice and shall be delivered in 3-7
minutes.
 Participant’s attire should be appropriate to the piece.

Criteria:

40% Delivery (Enunciation, Diction, Phrasing, Voice Projection)


30% Character Portrayal (Expression, Gesture, Attire)
10% Choice of Piece
10% Mastery
10% Stage Presence and impact
100 %

9. PICTURE ANALYSIS: ESSAY WRITING


When: 2:00 PM, November 29, 2023
Where: Grade 9 Classroom

Mechanics:
 There will be 1 representative each grade level.
 Participants shall bring 3 A4 sized bondpapers and a black inked ballpen.
 The facilitator will present a picture/photo in which the participants should
explain/describe/write an essay about.
 The photo will only be revealed during the contest proper.
 The students will be given 2 hours to freely explain and share their thoughts about the picture.

10. SPEECH CHOIR


When: December 5, 2023
Where: School Stage

Mechanics:
 For Category B (Grade 4- 6), there must be 15-25 participants.
 For category C (JHS), there must be 25-30 participants.
 There will be a uniform speech choir piece to be given to the participants.
 A minimum of 5 and maximum of 10 minutes including the entrance and exit shall be applied.

Criteria:

40% Delivery (quality of voice, fluency, pronunciation, blending, harmony)


30% Interpretation (manner in which the piece is internalized and presented)
20% Stage Presence (stage poise, eye contact, audience impact)
10% Costume, Props, Sound Effects

11. CHARACTER PORTRAYAL
When: December 5, 2023
Where: School Stage

Mechanics:
 There must be 1 representative each grade level.
 The participants shall portray or cosplay a character of
their choice, with a condition that their characters are all
related to English literature.
