I chose the lesson plan on simple past tense for grade 8 because this material is one of
the most important for English Beginners, That's why I chose this material. So, they will study
English very hard, because after this they will meet other types of tenses that they have not
encountered before, and they also have to memorize a lot of tenses. I will provide a stimulus
before we start the material on the simple past tense by giving an example and playing a
learning video.
I chose two basic competencies, namely 3.7 and 4.8 due to limited time allocation,
which relates to my topic. The indicator for 3.7 is Understanding the meaning of sentences
correctly because that's the first thing students have to learn. The indicator for 4.12 is writing
and constructing sentences correctly after they learn about the simple past tense.
In the teaching materials, I take from the syllabus, and I adapt from the general ones,
namely identifying the types of tenses, their meanings, formulas, and example sentences
because I want to improve students' abilities in micro skills.
In the strategy I use Project based learning because I want students to actively make a
product, so that this knowledge will survive in their long term memory because they will apply
their knowledge of the simple past tense directly in everyday life and the group discussion
method I chose because I want students to learn on their own and independently.
In the assessment, for the first purpose I ask them to write down the meaning and
formula for using it, the second goal I ask my students to practice it directly, conversations
using simple past tense sentences with the learning media that I have provided and present
them in front of the class in groups, working on questions which I gave and submitted at the
next meeting, in the last session I will provide a material review.
