What is It

Think!
 What is an antecedent?
Antecedents are nouns that are replaced by pronouns in
sentence.
Example: The young boy watched the parrot until he saw the baby
parrot.
Antecedent pronoun

 What is pronoun?
Pronouns are words use to replace a noun in sentences.
A pronoun agrees with its antecedent in number and gender.
 Agreement in number and gender - if the antecedent of a
pronoun is singular, a singular pronoun is required. If the
antecedent is plural, a plural pronoun is required.
 Masculine gender is indicated by he, his, and him. Feminine
gender is indicated by she, her, hers.
 Neuter gender is indicated by it and its.

The sentences below are from the poem Bugs at Home.The


underlined words are the pronoun and the words inside the circle are
the antecedents.
Example: There was once a tick whose name was Tock.
He made his home beneath a rock.

There was once an ant whose name was Jill,


She made her home inside a hill.

There was once a family of bees whose name was Clive


They made their home inside a hive.

What is a courteous expression?

Courteous expression is a sign of respect and consideration for


others. It is a reminder of the value of good manners.
Examples:
Sorry- when you apologize for something wrong that you have done.
Thank You- when someone gives something to you or buy something.
Please- When you ask for something favor.
Excuse Me- when you want to talk to someone whom you don’t know.
