Reflection Essay: Ikebana and Art Appropriation

Aristotle once said, “The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things,
but their inward significance.” This quote may seem simple, but reflecting on it and trying to
open your mind to appreciating various art will make a big difference on the facets as you
appreciate that particular piece. This implies that the shape of the work is vital, but much more
important is what we may indicate via that form, beyond what is clearly obvious on the surface.
As an art lover, I can characterize art as universal since it allows people to express their
imaginations about things, places, and concepts that are unreal or known. In contrast to words,
which come in sequences with predetermined meanings, art offers a variety of shapes, symbols,
and concepts with meanings that may be decided by the artist.
First and foremost, I learnt a lot about how art influences people. You may express
yourself via art. I have a lot of contemplation before, during, and after doing Ikebana art. While
I'm roaming about our place looking for the materials, I'll need to make my Ikebana, I'm learning
to enjoy nature's beauty. Recognizing the beauty of nature enables me to feel happy, satisfied,
and at peace with my life through times that may not be as easy as I'd like them to be. The more I
identify with and focus on the beauty of nature around me, the more joy I will discover in my life
and the less I will take for granted. During the exercise, I adore arranging the flowers according
to the Ikebana aspects. I enjoy doing it because of the color combination I have, and it feels
peaceful to my eyes. The flowers I chose were vivid in color, and the effect on my eyes was
really mild. I don't have much expertise arranging flowers, but I feel that it's a tremendous
accomplishment for me that by following the aspects of Ikebana, I've developed a lovely flower
art. My realization after accomplishing it and watching it with astonishment, a large grin on my
face, and a sigh of relief for me since another milestone in my life was completed and unlocked
on that day. I've also realized that it doesn't matter how large or small your Ikebana is or what
sort of flower you need to use to make it; what counts is how you present or construct it by heart
since what you feel is what you convey to your art.
I have a lot of reflections in my art appropriation practice. I was impressed by what I
observed when surfing the internet for diverse artwork. There were several types of artwork on
show, all of which were quite profound. Some of them appear simple, and everyone believes that
a 3-year-old boy or girl can do it as well, but if you look at it from another angle and attempt to
widen your understanding, you might ask yourself, "How did the artist come up with that
artwork?" I am extremely happy since this is my first time doing one, and I have already come
up with a concept and chosen an artwork that I want to depict. At first glance, I can state that
even if you are only attempting to replicate it, it appears to be a difficult task. But, because I
adore what I do, I finished it ahead of time and am quite pleased with the outcome. The artworks
I chose are of many genres, which is why I am really thrilled to depict them. It is critical to
promote this type of art because it helps us value art in terms of how it appeals to us and what it
means to each individual. It dives into the history and background of the art, as well as a glimpse
into the lives of the artists.

REFLECTION ESSAY

Art appreciation is incredibly important for a variety of reasons. It is an excellent

approach to learn about the work's history and the time period in which it was created. Artists' art
frequently reflects their own struggles as well as societal challenges. By examining and placing
oneself in the shoes of the artist, we can better understand how society functioned back then
compared to now. On a human level, we can connect with and relate to their concerns. It
stimulates meaningful discourse and the awareness that there is more than one way to things by
listening to diverse perspectives and ideas as well as interpretations of the art. Art offers
significance to our lives and aids in our understanding of the world around us. It is an important
aspect of our culture because it helps us understand our emotions better, develops our self-
awareness, and allows us to be open to new ideas and experiences.
