REPLYING TO AN EMAIL/LETTER

Guided Practice for A2 to B1 Candidates

Objective:
There are 3 sets of email/letter writing topics given here. By the end of this practice, you are expected
to be able to write clear, grammatical, relevant, and appropriate responses to the original
emails/letters.

SET 1 -The Scaffolding


Read the prompts from the original email and study the way the prompts are addressed.

SET 1 (Trial 2/2023 Question)

You are advised to spend about 25 minutes on this task.

Your friend, Bob, went for a walk with his parent last weekend. Read the following email from him.

During the weekend, I joined my parents for a 10,000-step walk around the park.

 Yes Bob. I do exercise (or). No Bob, I don’t exercise.
 I exercise the first thing in the morning after I wake up from sleep.
 I do 30 sit ups and 30 push ups to increase my stamina.
 When I am free I will go for a run at a nearby park.
 I do this to get some fresh air and to release stress.

Last month, my dad took me to a swimming class, but I did not like it.
 Wow, your dad is very supportive of you/Your dad seem to care a lot about you.
 I do not like swimming too/I am not really into swimming too/ Swimming is not my cup of tea too.
 I fear water. I fear drowning/ I don’t like swimming in public swimming pool/I feel shy when
swimming in public pool.
 Its okay if you do not like swimming. Many people do not like swimming.
I know I need to exercise to stay healthy, but I am not sure what kind of exercise to do.
 Yes, we need to exercise to stay healthy and there actually so many types of exercises that you can try.
Do you have any suggestions?
 Yes, I have two suggestions.
 First (number one), you might want to try jogging.
 You can jog along the road side near your house.
 You can job when the day is fine and not raining or not too hot.
 Jogging can help you lose weight and keep your body fit.
 Secondly, you might give aerobic dances a try.
 You can do aerobic dance at home.
 You can play some aerobic video from Youtube and follow the movements.
 This way, you can move your body, sweat out the stress and you will feel energised after that.

I am planning to go for another 10,000 -step walk this weekend.

I am planning to go for another cooking lesson this weekend. Chef Hijaz said he
would show us how to cook easy healthy food for busy students. Would you
