Time Dependent Values Allowable stresses (Creep

Conditions) in ASME B&PVC sec. VIII div. 1

Rules for establishing allowable stress
in sec. II part D:
At temperatures in the range where
creep and stress rupture strength
govern the selection of stresses, the
maximum allowable stress value for all
materials is established based on the
creep rate rupture or stress to cause
rupture at 100,000 hr as detailed in
the attached photos

Material properties duration 100,000 hrs are included as part of the basis in
establishing the allowable stresses (the italic values); this is NOT an anticipated nor a
design life for the pressure vessel.
