Strategy
PHYSICAL LAYOUT
Goal: analysis and identification extension/infill area.
Identify main access points (roads from city to highway);
Identify important areas (river, water, infrastructure, built-up area);
Identify legal restrictions (rural, national parks, legal boundaries);
Identify important economic areas (CBD, income generation areas, areas of growth,
agricultural land);
Map potential locations for extensions and/or infill.
Goal: mixed use, social mix, and sufficient land for public space.

ROAD HIERARCHY
Block size
In urban settings, small plots and different plot sizes are preferable to large plots with single use.
Rectangular plots with the short side to the road are preferable to square plots because this fits
more plots along a road, and reduces the costs of utilities.
Plot front size should be no more than 10-15 meters, and can be as low as 5-6 meter in
residential areas. Short blocks (90-150) increase the walkability of a neighborhood.
In general, small plot sizes enables higher densities and make plots more affordable. As large
plots are more expensive than small plots, different plot sizes allow a mix of different income
groups.
