However, acid attacks victims are also seen as a taboo in the society.
They are rejected when they call out for help or cry out to people.
These women are seen and blamed moreover for their own damage and
that mindset is what is ridiculously illogical. In a county where you
blame a six year old child’s rape on provocative clothes, it’s just a
shame to ‘punish’ women by throwing acid on them. Also, some victims
are left handicapped and abandoned by their families too, which leaves
them no choice but to join an NGO and fight against such acts with
victims of similar acts. Due to this, some of them are unable to find
suitable work, as they are affected with impaired vision and physical
handicap. Some people laugh and some just tend to stay away, which
also constitutes towards scarring the identities of these victims even
more. There is a very small margin of people who actually accept these
victims. According to a study done by "How many acid attacks are
there?", BBC News, 9 August 2013, in Acid Attacks, women and girls
are the victims in 75-80% of cases.
There are however, numerous NGOs and Social Activist groups that
support acid attack victims but are those just enough to change the
mindset of this country when it comes to physical and sexual assault on
women? Even though, everyone is aware of Acid Attacks, there are still
some imbeciles who turn a blind eye to this issue. You may be a woman
and still ignore these widespread issues, or you might be a man who can
think of no remorse or regret when it comes to assault on women, but
it’s not only important but absolutely necessary to respect every human
being. But if they’re going to show compassion only towards people with
filled pockets or pretty faces, it only shows how shallow they really are
as socially failed human beings.
