SS 6204 Remediation of contaminated soil and water

Group Assignment

Answer the following questions based on the selected research paper.

1. What is the nature of the pollution in the study area?

Under this you may explain the following (Choose the relevant ones, but do not limit to theses):
sources of pollution, extent of pollution, what are the contaminants, what is the land use and
what are the contaminant exposure pathway addressed in the study.

2. Explain the remediation method(s) that they have tested in the study.

3. Explain the mechanism of reducing the bioavailability of the contaminant with the proposed
method.

You may explain how the solubility/bioavailability of the contaminant will be reduced by using
the tested method. You will need to use your knowledge of soil chemistry and chemical
transformations you learnt in other classes.

4. What are the treatments they have used to test the remediation method?

5. How have they measured the effectiveness of the remediation?

Provide a list of analysis (related to the contaminant) they have performed. No need to write the
detailed procedure.

6. What are the major findings?
