Lab 3 – Worksheet
A. Calculating Flight Parameters
For Questions 1 and 2, refer to part A on the course site for images and further instructors.
Question 1
For each Drone/Sensor calculate DW, DH, image footprint area, and GSD based on the drone flying 100m
Above Ground Level (AGL). Present the results in a table.
Drone / Sensor DW (m) DH (m) Footprint Area (m2) GSD (cm/px) at 100m AGL
Mavic 2 Zoom
Inspire 1 X3
Mavic Mini
Question 2
What altitude would you need to fly the Zenmuse XT2 19mm FL at to obtain a GSD of 0.5cm? What
practical problems might arise from flying at this altitude?

Question 3
What is the duration of this flight displayed in Map Pilot Pro with the current settings?
Question 4
Considering the boundary that has been set, do you feel that this flight plan fulfils the objective of
creating an orthophoto of the field hockey pitch for inventorying the location of the field markings? Why
or why not?
Question 5
Is the proposed GSD appropriate for this mission, why or why not?
Question 6
What would be the GSD and flight time if this mission were flown with the same overlap and sidelap but
at an altitude of 25 m? Would it still be safe to fly with these parameters? Why or why not?
Question 7
Using Map Pilot Pro, create flight plans for the Phantom 4 Pro, the DJI Mini 2, and the Matrice 300RTK
using the P1 –35mm lens.
Under the Settings Menu select your Model
In the File Manager select and open the mapping boundary for the site, this will load a pre-
defined mapping boundary in the flight planning interface.
Set your proposed take off location as shown in the screenshot on the lab instructions
Set the requested overlap (80/80)
Set the requested rotation angle (-68°)
Adjust flight altitude to meet the requested GSD
Set Speed to maximum possible, using slider adjustment
Log flight information and mapping parameters
Save flight plan with a descriptive name that includes the Drone/Sensor
Take a screenshot that clearly shows your flight pattern
By following the above method, you can exit the mission plan, change the Drone/Sensor, reopen the
saved mission plan, unlock it and use it as the basis for your next flight plan.
For each platform and flight plan take a screenshot of the flight plan and submit directly below as your
answer. Your answer should contain 3 screenshots.

Altitude (m)
GSD (cm) 1 1 1
Speed Approach / 10 10 10
Return (m/s)
Area (hectares)
Duration

Question 9
Rank the platforms from best to worst for this job, flight duration and potential risks.
