Work Smarter not Longer

The standard workweek program is undeniably an inefficient way to reach high productivity in work.
Employees who work for eight hours a day, five days a week have such high stress and depression levels
that it’s almost impossible to believe that they still manage to do their jobs. There is no doubt that a
shorter workweek could most definitely cause major changes in the employees productivity and help
guide the industries to success.

US employees spend more working hours than any other employees in the world. An article from the
Huffington Post JUNE 2017, the hours they work are almost equivalent to an entire month a year. The
stress that these long work hours reflects on these employees also reflects very negatively on the work
they do. Stressed and tired employees can’t reach the high levels of productivity that the companies
require. These lengthy work days result in a lot of health issues caused by stress and the lack of sleep
that employees suffer from. Companies with shorter workweeks have revealed that their employees
achieve high productivity and lower health problems that help these companies grow. Moreover a
professor of Psychology at Florida State University has stated that the key isn’t to work more and
burnout, rather to feel like you are applying your best work in these few hours.

Some big companies have switched to a four day workweek rather than the five day one and the
founder of one of these companies encouraged that other companies do the exact same thing. Such a
workweek has resulted in less stress levels, less health issues, and in return high productivity and profit.
An article written by Robert Booth FEB 2019, Employees were given a chance to have more time to do
things that they want which results in them doing their jobs way better. Nonetheless there was no
decrease in the work done since there was an increase in productivity. Such workweeks give employees
energy, power and commitment which make their productivity brilliant. Employees used the day off to
do things they would do on the weekends hence giving more space for more activities to surface for
them. The founder of the New Zealand company perpetual garden claimed that paying the employees
on this day off would also increase their productivity greatly. This makes the employees happy and gives
them a reason to enjoy their work and give it their all for they’re getting 100% of their salary by working
80% of the hours. Barnes wishes companies would take the risk and follow in his footsteps so everyone
could benefit and be content with the life they’re living.

It is without doubt really hard to take such a risk, but with all these companies doing it life would
become an easier path for everyone. Happy employees results in good work and good work results in
great profit. Short workweeks are without doubt the way to go and hopefully one day they’ll be the only
workweeks that exist in all the industries.
