Summary

"Then why are you stabbing the table with a fork while spying at Tetsuya through the
window of our dining room?

Just an AU where Kuroko and Akashi are childhood friends who only ever separated during
high school.

Notes

See the end of the work for notes

There were a lot of difficult decisions that Akashi had to answer to in the past. Compared to all
those however, this current situation has to be on top of everything complex he had ever faced. It's
nothing calculative. Not even business-related.

"I'll choose Tokyo. There's a new school by the station called Seirin"

...It's not even a question directed to him nor does it even need a conclusion.

Tetsuya's eyes look ever so determined as he states such...complicated things.

Akashi knows that gaze as if it's written in the back of his hands. They've been together for such a
long time to know their meanings by using little gestures.

"Are you really sure about this-"

"Akashi-kun you've been asking the same question since last month"

Akashi merely sighs.

There really is nothing he can do about this.

"Take care, alright? Remember to-"

"Akashi-kun" Tetsuya gives him that look again and Akashi sighs an umpteenth time to which the
teal gave him this smile. Reserved only for him as they both lean on each other as they always do
since they were children.

"I'll beat you with my new team, Akashi-kun"

Akashi does feel infuriatingly anxious but Tetsuya also knows that he never says no to a challenge.
Only Tetsuya gives him that much of a thrill. He smiles defeatedly.

"We'll see that, Tetsuya"

As such, a year passes by in a blink of an eye, and that heavy feeling in Akashi's mind lightly
dissipates since he does get glimpses of Tetsuya (not that he's spying by his house' dining room
windows to see if the teal's home mind you) during the weekend or holidays whenever the teal's
back home.

"You're already here...Akashi-kun" Kuroko sweatdrops as he suddenly finds the redhead in his
house's living room quarters.

"Hmm?"

"How did you even know I got back...-?"

Akashi flashes a grin and as he was about to giddily answer, the teal cuts him off.

"You know what, nevermind. You've always been such a stalker"

"Oh Tetsuya don't lump me together with that word. I'm merely worri-"

"You've scared my mother three times already by looking like a ghost on your kitchen window,
Akashi-kun"

"..."

"Besides, I call and message you every time I get back, don't I? There's no reason for you to
suddenly pop in here"

"But you didn't today-"

"Well...my phone died. But that's beside the point"

"But-"
"No excuses"

Akashi then brings out his ultimate 'weapon' in winning arguments.

"...But Tetsuyaaa"

In where he uncharacteristically whines as he bugs the hell out of the teal head.

"Don't give me that look..." Kuroko sighs.

They've always been each other's weakness.

"Now you know how I feel whenever you drink your vanilla shakes" casually compares Akashi.

"That's a different thing!"

"It's not"

The teal pouts as he then starts playfully messing with Akashi's hair as he then lies beside the
redhead in this small dainty tatami living room.

Needless to say, the afternoon just ended up with both of them 'annoying' each other. Because that's
just how things are. At least for the two of them.

"Let me at least have this round...you beat us during Winter Cup after all" reasons Akashi as he
mumbles through the grainy floor.

"Fair enough"

Akashi unnoticeably grins at the tiny victory.

"But really the great Akashi acting like a stalker and being so salty about my victory, maybe I
should've recorded this moment as proof to everyone-"

"Do that and I'll instantly book a practice match with your team this weekend"

"...I'll be quiet. Let me rest already"

Akashi lightly laughs as Kuroko huffs whilst tiredly closing his eyes.

"...But really, you're amazing as ever, Tetsuya" Akashi randomly states fondly as he stares at the
unmoving figure of the other.

"Oh? What's this, a confession?"

"Can't you take a compliment and react normally for once?"

Kuroko chuckles, "If it's from you, no. You always react the same way when I'm the one on the
receiving end"

"True..." Akashi trails off as he still seriously stares at Kuroko who just gazes back at him, "But
really. You are amazing. Training with a newly found team and then winning the Winter
Cup...Even my father didn't expect that"

"Masaomi-san never expects anything. You two are just plain awkward in thinking"

"That's...also true"
Kuroko continues as he sweatdrops, "...he even dropped by in Seirin just to congratulate me"

"Really?" Akashi snorts, "It's hard to believe that you're not his son instead-"

Akashi then felt his face lightly warm up when said teal then suddenly places his face near an inch
apart from the redhead.

"What?" unnoticeably stutters Akashi.

"I've learned from the best after all...you two. This can be considered our victory, I guess..."

Akashi then flicks the other's forehead, "Idiot. It's your team's hard work. It's you who won. I didn't
do anything-"

"Except for being a douche on the court?"

"I wasn't that bad, Tetsuya"

"You made Kagami-kun kneel down and almost stabbed him in the eye with Midorima-kun's sciss-
"

"He's annoying" grumbles Akashi. He'll never admit that recently he had been feeling so childishly
jealous whenever he sees the teal and the other redhead getting along with his friends all together
in Tokyo...without him.

"Was he too tall for you?"

"Don't push your luck Tetsuya"

Kuroko snorts as he still genuinely smiles to which the warm feeling in Akashi's head resurfaces
once more.

"...I'll still consider this as our victory together though"

Akashi then smiles warmly toward the other.

"If that's what you want I guess..."

There's a slight comfortable silence that passes by as the two of them proceed on doing their casual
activities on the floor. Mostly reading a set of novels for the teal whilst Akashi arranges his own
set of paperwork.

Just a normal day between the two of them.

"But I swear...Kagami-kun only ever hushes up when I imitate you" Kuroko then began once more.

"...Like Aomine, isn't he?"

Kuroko fondly smiles as he nods, "Yeah...I wonder how they're doing right now"

"Hopefully not killing each other in America"

"It's only a two-week training trip, how bad could that be?" Kuroko then scrunches up, "Then
again, if it's those two, anything's possible..."

"Yeah..." Akashi mutters as he watches the layers of memories flashing through Kuroko's eyes
brightly. That heavy feeling from before replaces his current relaxed mood as part of him wishes
that he could in those fleeting moments too...That he could be with Tetsuya along with his friends
back in Tokyo.

He could always do so but one, Tetsuya insisted for him not to because it's more work for
Akashi...and two, mostly because they both decided to 'learn' how to grow without relying on one
another.

It did take time to get used to...

But if anything, it made Akashi even fonder of Kuroko and wants to spend time with him all to
himself... but that's just selfish. He and Kuroko have always been together since who knows when
and both of them knew how irreplaceable they are to one another.

"When will you be back?" Akashi anxiously asks out of the blue as time did pass by too quickly as
he sees himself packing his stuff to go back to his own house across the road.

"I'll be here by next weekend too...I guess. If the coach didn't schedule anything"

"Did you pack everything correctly? Bring more food in your apartment and do avoid drinking
vanilla shakes often and-"

"I know, Mom"

Akashi deadpanned stares at the nonchalant teen, "I'm being serious here. You can't even cook a
meal properly, Tetsuya"

"I can't. But Kagami-kun can"

"You..." Akashi trails off as he sweatdrops, "He only cooks for you because I asked him to. Taiga
literally sent me a photo of your fridge filled with vanilla-"

"It was on a bargain that week. It just so happens Kagami-kun coincidentally opens my fridge up
that very day. And I can cook a meal properly" Kuroko lightly curses Kagami as he wonders when
did these two redheads get each other's number?

"A boiled egg doesn't count as a meal"

Kuroko pouts. To which Akashi can't really help but let the conversation go as he stares at the
puppy-like eyes of the other. Accursed weakness.

"But really...Tetsuya, take better care of yourself"

"I will...I swear. I promised after all..." Akashi blinks at the quiet tone but as he was about to
respond the teal continues, "So stop worrying and looking over at the window okay? You'll scare
the other neighbors"

Kuroko's eyes then lit up gently in acknowledgment and Akashi reluctantly agrees as they both bid
their short farewell.

But in all honesty...to feel this heavily is so childish of Akashi. The redhead unnoticeably sighs.
Lately, he just can't help but feel that way as Kuroko rarely goes home at this point in time during
the weekends. That's to be expected. High school isn't a sweet road after all. They all had to work
hard, not after what they had all gone through in middle school. Akashi is sure to be careful with
his interactions so as to calm the voices in his head.

As the week passes, Akashi still ends up looking over his phone for any updates about said teal
head.

"Sei-chaaan" Reo casually hovers Akashi's back, as said redhead is browsing through his phone,
and playfully hugs the other from behind as he always does after their team's practices in the gym,
"Are you still worried about Tet-chan?"

"Perhaps..." Akashi trails off as he closes his phone to listen to Reo's usual after-practice banters
regarding him and Kuroko.

"Man you've been spamming him messages all week, if I was Kuroko I won't answ-"

"Kotaro shut up" Reo grumbly reprimands as Akashi just blankly stares at the two. All too
knowing that even he was going too far.

"Well I'm not usually siding with Hayama, but you have been contacting Kuroko nonstop lately,
Akashi. Give him a break" Eikichi casually states and Reo still continues reprimanding the two to
no vain.

"Am I really?"

Reo stops as he can't resist that cute confused face the redhead is making as he squeals, "Tet-chan
is so lucky though since he has Sei-chan worrying about him~ There's nothing wrong with
worrying at all! These two dolts just lack that kind of concept! Just continue what you're doing"

"Haaah?" Kotaro grumbles at the insinuation, "Hey! I don't lack-"

"But you've been childhood friends for so long, so shouldn't Akashi just trust him to do what he
says rather than worry about it or something?" Eikichi cuts in to which Reo and Akashi suddenly
became silent as they both look at the buff man with a thoughtful expression. Reo then stares at
Akashi worried at what the other is overthinking again.

"S-Sei-chan! Uh..."

"It's fine Reo. Nebuya's right" Akashi lightly sighs, "...Tetsuya and I are always together since
then. I really do can't help but worry...It's most likely just me overthinking again..."

Reo and the others then look at Akashi warmly.

"I'm sure Kuroko appreciates what you do for him too" Eikichi reassures.

"Yeah. I mean I've been with these two since who knows when too and sometimes they are
overbearing but...we're all cool I guess" Kotaro says quietly as he faces the other way but the said
two would never make that bold statement pass.

"Kotaaaarooo! I knew you always liked us man!"

"Damn it, Eikichi! Stop burping near my face you gorill-"

Akashi watches the two fondly as he felt a pat on his shoulder

"I'm sure Tet-chan understands, Sei-chan. He's so lucky to have so much love from you~"

Love...?
Akashi then watches the black-haired join in the commotion as he sits there alone again with his
thoughts.

Well...They're not entirely wrong.

He did love Tetsuya. They're like brothers after all. A family...although not really being entirely
related by blood and all that.

More importantly...what was Reo's tone all about?

"Seiii-chan! If you keep overthinking, we'll call Tet-chan for youuu!" Reo playfully says as the
three then made their way back towards him again.

"What's the matter now, Sei-chan?" knowing the redhead's quirks, Reo then asks.

"Love?..." to which Akashi responds ever so vaguely with such a word so far from his vocabulary
that made Reo and the others sputter.

"He's still caught up with that statement..." Kotaro sweatdrops.

"The mind of geniuses..." Eikichi adds quietly.

"Ehhh? Sei-chan, it can't be you..." Reo then suddenly turns serious, "Sei-chan! Answer this
question truthfully!"

"Huh?" Akashi blinks as he sees all three staring at him so intently.

"What do you feel when you see Tet-chan with another person?"

"I don't get it, Reo. Tetsuya can be with his friends, there's no problem with that-"

Reo raises his hand instantly in denial, "No no, I meant romantically!"

"That's impossible. Kuroko's way too invisible and if that were to happen I'll be the first one to
know" Akashi finds himself blinking more as he instantly confidently replies such a casual answer
which shocks the other three. To which Akashi doesn't know why he felt such a heavy feeling
when he finally realizes what he says.

If anything, Tetsuya has been shining so much these days...

But...Akashi will be the first one to know...right?

Right?

Akashi repeats this notion in his mind over and over again.

"Why do you sound so confident..." Eikichi and Kotaro sweatdrops.

Though, Reo didn't drop the serious look on his face as he does notice the lingering thoughts of the
redhead,

"All I could tell you is that you have to be honest with yourself more, Sei-chan"

Honest with himself...?

Akashi's mind is definitely filled with that serious conversation that occurred with his team even as
he goes back home and sat down in his usual seat in the dining area. Definitely not taking glimpses
of the other house just across the road.

If Reo was insinuating such a thing...

That would mean Akashi's infatuated with Kuroko...?

But that's...impossible.

They were only childhood friends.

They can be intimate at times but that's how things are.

It's so normal.

Akashi lightly snorts. It was all too unreal and amusing the more Akashi thinks about it. He'll
definitely have to tell this to Tetsuya tomorrow. It'll be such a laugh.

Akashi then checks his phone calendar once more as the teal did say before that he will go back
this weekend. He's never been so glad to know that it's a Friday. The redhead then sees his father
arrive at the dining room ever so quietly as both of them proceed to eat dinner in peace.

...

That is until Akashi sees by the window the familiar lights from the house next door flicker,
revealing a familiar teal head on the other side.

...

Did Tetsuya mention anything about being home early?

Akashi sneaks a peek at his phone. Finding absolutely nothing.

Oh...But that's fine. Perhaps Tetsuya's phone most likely died again-

The redhead then watches the distant figure once more and suddenly felt his heart drop as he then
sees an unfamiliar person playfully appearing and clinging to the teal head. Said figure also seems
to be holding what looks like the silhouette of a phone.

A figure looking like...

A girl.

Of their age.

Which judging from Tetsuya's parent's actions, had been known by them for quite some time.

...Huh?

Who? Where?

Why did Seijuurou not know about this? He literally lives in that house and never saw that girl
before.

Did Tetsuya really keep such information from him? Is that why he wasn't answering any messages
or calls?
Is that why Kuroko's not coming home?

...Why is this making Akashi so flustered? He lightly coughs to distract and compose himself.

"Seijuurou"

Akashi releases a breath he didn't know he was holding at the sudden voice belonging to the man
eating in front of him, "Yes, Father?"

"Did you and Tetsuya have a...fight?"

Akashi does a double take if he actually heard the man correctly, more likely because the man
really isn't exactly helping his exploding thoughts right now,

"No"

"Oh..." Masaomi trails off,

"Then why are you stabbing the table with a fork while spying at Tetsuya through the window of
our dining room?"

With one look from Seijuurou, the older man quieted down. His son has always been so...quirky
when it comes to Tetsuya. Well...perhaps it can be said to the both of them.

"Do settle your things with him" Masaomi knew not to press because the last time he did, he ended
up being the scapegoat of these two's affairs regarding basketballs and milkshakes... and Masaomi
does prefer his peace.

Regardless, Seijuurou was out entirely for the night and all the servants knew not to lock the front
door in case he ever returns.

"Why Tetsuya! You didn't tell me you'll be back home early and that you'll have a guest over!
After all the planning we did-"

"...Akashi-kun. What are you doing here?"

Akashi maintains his grinning polite facade as he suddenly surprisingly acknowledges the girl
beside Kuroko.

"W-who..." The girl trails off not really knowing why she felt like she was being hunted...or
something.

"He's Akashi, from next door"

"Oh..." and the girl does know better as she hurriedly excuses herself for the night.

"...Care to tell me what those plans are, Akashi-kun? and when did we ever discuss such a thing?"

"I literally made it a while ago during dinner and since you're here, I might as well just tell you in
person" Akashi happily grins to which Kuroko lets it go again. All used to the redheads antics,

"So what is this plan?"

Akashi ended up dragging the two of them to his usual spot in the teal's bedroom and just cuddled
his thoughts away with the teen's scent while they both sleep.
"Really...that's your plan?"

"It worked didn't it?" Akashi says as he stifles a yawn. He only ever does sleep comfortably
whenever he's near Kuroko as it does remind him of the times when his mother would coddle both
of them up.

"I suppose...but we're not children anymore. The bed's gotten a lot smaller"

"Let's buy a new one"

"Knowing your tastes, no. That bed won't fit in my room"

"Then just go to my place"

"I just live next door, Akashi-kun. We should just stay-"

"All the better"

Kuroko just sighs.

"You two are still the same as ever in the mornings...and Tetsuya! You didn't even say goodbye to
her" Kuroko's mother states as she appears by the living room entryway. To which everyone knows
how these two children literally owns said tatami room by now.

"Was she able to find the way to her school though? I'm sorry I wasn't able to assist her much"

"She says it's fine. You know how it is with your cousin. Though, she does look a little frightened.
It may just be my imagination or she's actually really nervous with this new city"

"It must be..." Tetsuya tiredly laughs as he lightly glimpses at Akashi who was just blinking
innocently at the two's conversation as he pieces everything in his head.

Akashi didn't regret anything though.

"But do take care of yourself more, Tetsuya. Here, I made extra lunch for your trip this afternoon"
Kuroko's mother states as she washes her hands and gives the said lunch box to her son.

"Where are you going?" Akashi's ears perks up at the new information.

"There's suddenly a small errand that came up for Seirin's basketball club...funds for the upcoming
cultural event" Kuroko felt a slight chill as he remembers his coach's threats of quadruple trainings,
"I'd rather have my bones intact..."

"..." Akashi remains silent as he tries to brush off the always heavy feeling in the bottom of his
stomach. Again and again... He waited for this weekend for so long...,

"Will you be back this evening?"

"I will. This really won't take long"

Akashi really ought to slap himself out of it as he felt that tiny ounce of happiness seeps through his
chest once more.

Akashi then deeply sighs as he finds himself doing so a lot these days.
They both then got escorted by Kuroko's mother to the front door as Tetsuya then bid his quick
goodbye.

"Akashi, will you hear me for a moment?"

Akashi blinks at the sudden request the woman made when they both see the teal's disappearing
figure in the corner. Akashi didn't really have any reason to refuse so he just quietly stands there
waiting for the woman's inquiry.

"You and Tetsuya have always been so close..." the woman began with such a cautious tone that
reminds Akashi of his own mother's strict tendencies, "so I figured if it's you who asks him this
then he may have to consider his decisions"

"What's wrong? Are there any problems?" if anything, there are a lot of problems if the woman is
speaking to him this way. Akashi does know how Tetsuya from time to time, ironically, never
really gets along well with his own parents...except for his grandmother who...isn't really with
them at this point. It happens. Not a lot of times but it was always in this tone. Akashi faintly
remembers those childhood mischievousness with Tetsuya and how the woman used the exact
same pattern of speech to scold them.

"After Tetsuya graduates, his father and I decided to move him with us to another country"

Akashi felt time stop as he hears the words uttered. He began to unnoticeably fiddle around his
hands.

"He, of course, is heavily against this decision...but after all that's happened, we just wanted to give
him a fresh start. So..." the woman trails off as she stares at Akashi intently "would it be possible
for you to convince him?"

"...with all due respect, if Tetsuya's completely against this already, I don't think I can make any
difference. Also..." Akashi felt himself grip his fists a little too tightly as he surprisingly instantly
answers the inquiry, "...frankly, I won't be able to accept this request either. I...care for Tetsuya's
mental state. He'll be crushed if you do such a thing"

If anything, Akashi was merely talking about himself. He knows it by that much. He can't handle
it. Tokyo was already too far, what more can a distance of an airplane do to his own mental state.

He just wanted his time with Tetsuya...was it so much to ask?

He does love Tetsuya.

...He truly does...after all.

How could he have not noticed for so long?

The woman remained silent but as always the Kuroko's have that cunning and all-knowing blank
look as Akashi then stares at the woman in front of him. It's as if he just lost in a game of wits
when the woman suddenly smiles.

"I expected you'll say that much. If you're already this honest with yourself, why not tell it to him
now? Instead of staring like a ghost by your kitchen window feeling like a hopeless romantic and
fearing that my baby boy's going to be taken away by his own cousin~ Hilarious" Kuroko's mother
knowingly tauntingly teases as she grins and laughs while heading off inside her house leaving a
stunned Akashi whose face is the same colored as his hair.
"Kuroko-san!" Akashi groans at the insinuation.

Why is it that he always loses to the Kuroko's?!

Nevertheless, Akashi heads home with such a warm face as he stares at the clock the whole entire
time waiting for evening to strike and for his blasted phone to ring.

Time passes like an eternity as usual as Akashi never really got any calls or messages either.
Tetsuya and his promises. The redhead can't help but pout as he ponders over dialing the teal
head's number.

"I thought you would've called me by now"

Akashi has always been so difficult to surprise. Mainly because he's so used to Kuroko giving him
the shock of his life whenever said teal appears so suddenly everywhere. Mostly by his bedroom
balcony as if Tetsuya was some sort of fairy tale creature taking Akashi away.

"You're too old to be Romeo by now Tetsuya. You'll literally fall off the tree and make your injury
much worse-"

"And you're too grumpy for being Juliet" Kuroko retorts almost immediately.

"Be thankful that I didn't let the gardeners trim that tree down"

"Don't give me that. You could have easily just let them build some stairs for me to climb on. But
you ought to be a stupid romantic"

Akashi grins exposed, "and lessen to see you so flustered? Never"

Kuroko rolls his eyes as he sits over to Akashi's bed as if owning the place.

"Rough day?" redirects Akashi as he goes behind the other and lightly massages the teal's back.

"The coach has always been so tough..." grumbles Kuroko but calms down when he stares back at
Akashi, "Not as tough as yours though..."

"Hmm..." Akashi hums as he too gazes directly at the teal head, softly reflected by the high
moonlight on his balcony. Truly as if the other was a reincarnation of a fairy tale.

Exquisitely beautiful in all the senses Akashi could even think about...

They both remained comfortably silent. With everything almost all in sync.

All in perfect motion. That perfect electric blue.

It was so breathtaking that Akashi didn't even know what he was doing next as he felt the two of
them breathe a little too heavily, both closing in on each other and for all Akashi knew his hands
gently touches the other's silky blue locks as he brings his face closer to the other until their lips
lock together in such a form of heated trance.

...

...

"W..wha?"
Akashi widens his eyes as he quickly gets up and realizes what he had just done as Tetsuya sputters
ever so quietly as the teal too looked so flustered and confused.

Akashi never felt this much panic in his seventeen years of living.

"I-I...Tetsuya-"

"U-um...I better go check in on Masaomi-san. He did tell me to fetch something from Tokyo"
Tetsuya hurriedly excuses as he passes by Akash whose brain never really got back to functioning.

Shit.

Akashi rarely curses. But he really deserves to at least say that one now.

...

Especially when a part of him kind of hoped for Tetsuya to stay.

...

Akashi then finds himself getting up and lightly chasing after the other.

He shouldn't hope.

He should act.

...

Akashi will chase Kuroko at the end of the world if he has to.

They've always been together after all.

End Notes

A/N:

Was sposed to be just a short fic written for V. Day but i ended up writing 8 mini chaps of it
lol so ended up a bit late in postin this first one. Will be postin those other stuff too.

My unfinished fics: *curses me

Me: I'm sorry! I swear I'll get back to you :' )

A few stuffs bout this au:

- As the summary says akakuro childhood friends~ As in they literally grew up with each
other (from somehow sworn brothers to lovers amirite /shot) will be delving more on this in
the next few chapters. So they do kinda act as oc or somethin but that's because they had
each other to lean on especially during the major sad moments in their life when they were
kids like Shio's funeral and stuff T_T

- In short, they're like bickering cute siblings until they discover love amirite
- Their families are pretty close so Akashi could just come and barge at Kuroko's house and
same with Kuroko vice versa~

- Everyone's protective of each other in any of their familieees T_T

- Yes to matchmaking parents trope pls

- Akashi also has this competitive streak that he's the best childhood friend ever and he bugs
Aomine about it too.

- Middle school fiasco still happened but gradually eased up before they all graduated due
to some kind of event. Again will be on the next few chapters I guess.

- They're all still in their respective high schools~

Yeah that's about it~

Eeeyup.
