April 25, 2023 (Monday)

On the previous days, the midterm exam took place, so we focused on studying for
the examinations that’s why we were unable to progress with our research paper. On the free
time that we had, we hang out with our friends to talk with our problems and pet peeves. We
also went swimming on the weekends to cool off from the blazing summer heat. Any
additional time was spent either studying or resting for a little while to not feel burnt out on
continuing the study.

April 25, 2023 (Tuesday)

Our research teacher discussed the different types of research designs and research
instruments and taught us how to incorporate them into our research paper. She discussed
both quanti and quali since our study is experimental and falls under quantitative. She also
informed us to make the research design and research instrument for our Chapter 2 to be
submitted next Tuesday.

We confirmed that our study will utilize an experimental design to test the
effectiveness of Mung Bean and Banana Mat as alternative chicken feeds. We also learned
that we will create two groups for experimentation, the experimental group and the controlled
group.

Experimental Group – Alternative Feeds

Control Group – Commercial Feeds

To collect the needed data, we realize that structured observation, as one of the
research instruments for quantitative research, is the more appropriate tool to be used than
others for gathering data in which we will observe the changes and effects on the chicks as
the experiment continues. Using this type of research instrument will help us better
understand the growth performance and the testing of edibility between the alternative feeds
and the commercial feeds.

1. Research Design – Pitt & Jericho

2. Research Instrument – Venemon
April 26, 2023 (Wednesday)
Today our research teacher discussed other parts of Chapter 2, such as the variables,
materials, and procedure. She reiterated that this is only applicable for experimental research.
In the case of our classmates, where they focus on qualitative research, Ma’am Des also gave
a separate discussion. After discussing, she announced that we would make our own and
submit it along with the research design and instrument on May 2, 2023.

These are the variables that will be present in our study:

 Independent Variable
 Dependent Variable
 Experimental Variable
 Control Variable
 Constant Variable

In terms of the materials, we will most likely use the ones that were used by previous
researchers. During this time, we reviewed the previous research to have an idea to what we
will do for our procedure.

Wed April 26, 2023 at 8:45AM

Our teacher discussed about Data Gathering Procedure both for quali and quanti
(experimental). Luckily she gave us her subject time in order for us to finish making the parts
of Chapter 2. That’s why we divided the tasks that we have in order to maximize efficiency.

1. Variables – Pitt
2. Statistical Tools – Venemon
3. Materials and Procedure – Jericho
4. Data Gathering Procedure – After other parts are made

8:45PM
We have accomplished very little today, we didn’t finish anything and we might have
to stay up until morning in order to make good progress because tomorrow, we will be very
busy for other subjects.
Thurs April 27, 2023 at 9:30AM

After checking and revising, these are the variables that are present in our study:

• Independent Variable – Alternative chicken feeds

• Dependent Variable – Growth performance of the 45 Days Chicks
• Experimental Variable – Chickens that maximized alternative feeds
• Control Variable – Chickens that maximized commercial feeds
• Constant Variable – Water

Fri April 26, 2023 at 10:30PM

Today, we finished our remaining tasks. We finished the materials, procedure,

statistical tools, and data gathering procedure. We accomplished so much thanks to our
research teacher and other teachers too; we are very grateful for them. We also implemented
the suggestion from the previous researchers in the data gathering procedure, which is to refer
to a standard for the chicken coup and for taking care of the chicken in general.

Summary of Procedure and Statistical Tools:

Before proceeding in creating the alternative feeds we will be sterilizing the materials
that we will use and we’ll also collect the freshly picked ingredients. Our process will involve
cleaning, cutting, and extracting the Banana Mat and stir-frying the Mung bean before
blending and mixing with a binding agent to form a feed. We’ll be using the total change
measurement that the previous researchers used to measure the change of the weight of the
chicks and we are also considering to use a T-test to prove statistically whether there is a
significant difference between the alternative feeds and commercial feeds.

Summarized Data Gathering Procedure

The commercial feed and the alternative feed are prepared first. Then create a chicken
coup in a proper location (8-12 inches raised from the ground), proper size with 4 square feet
of room in a coup per chicken, with space for a feeder and waterer and vents for air
circulation. Then feed the chicks (experimental) with the alternative feed and fed commercial
feed to the other chicks (controlled). Feed all the chickens 4 times a day (2 times in the
morning and 2 times in the afternoon). Provide all the chicks with an equal amount of water
(266ml). Lastly, record the weight of the chicks every day, so as the amount of feed given,
intake, and remaining (if any). Check and clean the chicken coup regularly and observe the
behavior of the chicks.

Tue May 2, 2023 at 9:39AM

At our research time today, we submitted our outputs for the parts of Chapter 2. In the
meantime, we are asking further questions to Ma’am Des so that we don’t need to ask it at
another time, especially since we have a lot of presentations to do at other subjects. It is such
a relief that we are done with the chapter 2, however we still can’t rest since we need to
prepare for a quiz and a recitation tomorrow for other subjects.

Wed May 3, 2023 at 8:40AM

We received our checked output today, we will revise it when we are free.

These are some of the things we need to revise:

1. Procedure: Detail every step, do not leave vague cuts.

2. Grammar
3. Cohesion (again)

Thurs May 4, 2023 at 9:00 AM

Right now we are working on the revisions that we need to make since we will submit
it before our research teacher leaves. She informed us that our Proposal Defense will be on
Tuesday which is great since we have more than enough time to prepare for it.

Fri May 5, 2023 8:34AM

Today, we don’t have research so we will make preparatory notes, pointers, and
reminders, the usual “preparing for a defense routine”. Other groups chose to rest for the time
being after a week of working, but we chose to continue working on our free time, that’s
because we are not done yet; and we will stop when we are finished (joke lang).
Sat May 6, 2023 at 8:30AM

Today we will have a meeting to prepare for the defense, we will do the following:

1. Double check our Manuscript

2. Ask each other (some sort of mock defense)
We will finish all the things that we need to finish for our research today so that
tomorrow we can spend it on ourselves, rest and recover for the defense.

Mon May 8, 2023 at 8:45PM

Today we had additional revisions to our paper because our research teacher pointed
out potential room for errors, we also printed out our manuscripts and bought folders for it.
We are ready for tomorrow both mentally and physically (pogi na). For all our efforts, ideas,
time and everything else that was spent on this, we hope that we will have a successful
defense.
“For I know the plans I have for you” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and
not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”

Tuesday May 9, 2023 7:00AM

In a few hours, we will be finished with our defense, the results will only be based on
our performance, that’s why, we will do our best!

----

10:49AM
We’re now sitting outside, beside the canteen, eating our snacks… we had a
successful defense. We are now enjoying our food because we didn’t eat breakfast so that our
minds are sharp for the defense, and now that it is done, we will now feast.

11:30AM
We have a few changes that needs to be made on our paper, that’s why now, we are
revising so that we can get it checked by the panel while they are still here. Thank you Lord.
Thank you panel, Thank you Ma’am Des for all the guidance.
Wed May 10, 2023 at 2023
We are finalizing our Chapter 2 now because we are going to submit it today, we will
also ask from our teacher for the Letter of Approval.

JERICHO’S JOURNAL ENTRY!

June 6, 2023, Tuesday at 4:15 pm

At last, the experimentation period was done. We can now focus on the analysis of
the data. Some of our classmates were already done with the themes and interpretation of the
data from their qualitative research, while we were chilling. Magiging busy palang. We
agreed to work at Jericho’s place, for it cannot be finished in just a glimpse.

June 7, 2023 Wednesday at

We use our time in research in analyzing the data gathered through observation. We
decided to use the line graph to present the growth performance of the chicks each week. The
total change measurement is the tool we use to gauge the growth performance of the chicks
which was also utilize by the previous researchers. This day we only focus in analyzing the
SOP 1, we divided the task for us to finish this and meet the deadline of our teacher.

June 8, 2023, Thursday

We were not able to work on the analysis of data in school, so we decided to work at
Jericho’s house after school. We ask first for the consent of our parents and assure them that
we will go home at 8 o’clock in the evening. We analyzed the result of the observation for
SOP 2, which tackles the edibility of the alternative feeds and the commercial feeds. The
Welch T-test was utilized as one of the inferential statistics, as advised by the panelists during
the proposal defense. We asked for the assistance of our Basic Calculus and Statistics
Teacher, Sir Vincent, on the computation of the data for this Welch T-test since this was not
yet tackled in the Statistics and Probability subject. We finished at 8:15 p.m. because
Venemon’s mother came over to fetch him because it was already late. We decided to
continue working on our manuscript tomorrow since that is also the schedule of our ICL.

June 9, 2023, Friday

While our classmates are ready to submit their full manuscripts, we are still working
on Chapter 3 of our paper. Venemon was tasked with finalizing the discussion of SOP 2
findings, while I worked on the conclusion of our paper and Jericho worked on the
recommendation of our paper. Before the day ended, we were able to finish the whole chapter
3 of our paper, thanks to our vacant hours. Malapit na sa katotohanan. Thank God for giving
us strength.

June 10, 2023, Saturday

We decided to gather this day to finish this manuscript. According to Ma’am Des, we
will participate in the research fair to be facilitated by the Science Department on June 13,
2023, at the Sports Complex of the school. Sir Teodoro will be there; he is one of the judges
during the research colloquium on March 9, 2023. So, we did our best to finalize the whole
manuscript and sent the soft copy of our paper to Ma’am Des email address.

June 11, 2023, Sunday

Ma’am Des, send back the manuscript we submitted. She told us that she had already
edited some of the parts to be improved. Another task given to us is to layout a poster to be
presented at the research fair. San o ka matapos research? We asked the help of Sir Choi, a
grade 12 teacher in our school, to assist us in the layout of our research poster. After which,
we printed it on tarp papel to lessen our expenses. We agreed to meet tomorrow kahit holiday
to display our research poster at the venue as instructed by Ma'am Des. We will borrow from
Grade 12 STEM students the stand of their poster used during the research colloquium.

June 12, 2023, Monday

With the help of Ma’am Des, we were able to display our poster at the sports
complex of the school for tomorrow’s event. We immediately go home to rest, for we are
very sleepy due to successive activities.
June 13, 2023, Tuesday
We were present at the research fair. Well, the research colloquium held on March 9,
2023, was more organized than the activity conducted a while ago. There was no oral
presentation; all research output was presented through posters. We are asked to wait at our
post while Sir Teodoro and other science teachers roam around. Luckily, all the questions
asked were all answered since we were really hands-on with our research paper. The activity
ended at 3p.m. Ma’am Des told us to return the borrowed stand of the poster; she also
congratulated us and thanked us for doing our best in this activity. Wara manlng winners,
purely presentation lang, haha.

June 14, 2023, Wednesday

Since our output was already checked by Ma’am Des, we were just asked to print the
hard copy of our manuscript. Doing research at this school is less expensive because she
allows her students to print in her classroom. At last, natapos din. We’ve learned a lot on this
subject. I realized that the collaboration and cooperation of each member of the group are
very essential to the success of every endeavor. I am just very glad that my group mates are
very responsible. We also got to know each other better because of this subject. This is one of
my most memorable days in senior high school.
