Seat Work #1: “How the Society Thinks of Me”

B. Reflection
1. What may be the reason/s why some adolescents find it hard to adjust despite having positive
social relationships?
As a teenager, I believe that one of the main reasons why we adolescents have such a
difficult time adjusting to life is due to the expectations or assumptions others have placed on us.
Their critical remarks make us feel unaccepted, and this negatively affects our physical and
psychological well-being. Moreover, social interactions among teenagers with mental illnesses can
be challenging. Teenagers with depressed symptoms could have few friends and find it hard to talk
about their troubles. Because we have the internet, everything is deemed easy among this new
generation of individuals. In actuality, our detachment from real life is caused by the internet. In
the end, it is really challenging to keep up with and retain our sanity in a world that is spinning so
quickly.

2. Why do you think is it hard for some people to accept compliments and are quick to judge them
based on a few mistakes? What could be done about it?
I can empathize with people who are not naturally excellent at giving and taking
compliments based on my own personality. I am not always friendly to the people around me.
Personally, I believe it is because we are hesitant to express our vulnerability or lower our guard
around others. Furthermore, a lot of individuals nowadays struggle with trust, which is why we are
all cautious of other people's words and actions. This is a basic human instinct that is typically
modified by a person's genetic, social, or environmental factors. It may also imply that these
individuals have already had their trust broken and that this betrayal has wounded them.
I believe we should be capable of understanding their story and come to truly embrace
them. Just a gentle reminder that fixing them is not our responsibility. A good friend, however,
will offer encouragement and support along the process if they ask for assistance. Additionally, be
transparent and honest with them about everything because doing so will reduce the amount of
endless thoughts and worries they have. Finally, you may advise them to seek professional help.
