company to find out the company's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. This report will give an
overview of what are the surrounding factors inside and outside the business, in particular, the pestle model and
the five-force environment will also participate in the analysis to consolidate the comments above. In addition,
SWOT and TOWS analyses are also mentioned in the debate.

Through this report, the reader will get some timely information about the current market situation in Vietnam
including advantages and disadvantages and how the company operates in a reasonable way to solve certain
problems.

The competitive environment

1. Political factors
While other countries are still in conflict and there are still political and economic vulnerabilities, Vietnam has
received a boost from a stable government that makes it an ideal location to visit. only for investment capital but
also for FDI enterprises to invest. According to the report of the Global Peace Index (2023), which has just been
released by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), gives a list of the most peaceful countries in the world.
In which, Vietnam ranked 41st out of 163 countries and territories, up 4 places compared to last year. This is
quite a positive result, but it also shows that there are many challenges facing our country.

Vietnam's political stability, one of the main factors influencing the country's ongoing stable and high economic
development, will make it easier to expand trade and production activities in the future. . Political stability
ensures that businesses can rely on support from the government. Vietnam currently ranks high in the “Good
Government Index” (Government Electronic Newspaper, 2022).
(trading economics, n.d)

The chart above shows that the situation of political stability and non-violence/terrorism in Vietnam has been on a
downward trend in recent years. In 2021, this rate drops to 44.81%, which is a good situation for the development
of the country and the business. Therefore, Vietnamese politics is becoming a good opportunity for Samsung to
develop the company and contribute to the sustainable development of the country. Stemming from this reason,
Samsung Group has seized the opportunity and become one of the largest employers in Vietnam's electronics
industry.

2. Economical factors
Vietnam is a developing country in Asia and has made positive strides in the economy in the period 2020-2021,
especially after the Covid-19 epidemic. There are many factors and signs that this is happening, and it
issomething that we can clearly see.
National GDP growth in the period 2011 2022

Firstly, it can be seen that Vietnam's GDP growth rate in recent years has remained quite stable and shows signs
of high and stable growth in recent years. However, in 2020-2021 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,
Vietnam's GDP growth rate has decreased compared to previous years, but still achieved a positive growth rate of
2.91% and 2.3%. ,58%. In fact, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected all economies in the world, and Vietnam is
no exception. In which, 2022 achieved the highest growth rate in four years with a growth rate of 8.02%.
Economists forecast that Vietnam's GDP growth rate will continue to increase again in the following years
(Department of planning and investment of Binh Dinh province, 2023).

To assess the economic situation of Vietnam, the next important factor is the inflation rate. From the inflation rate
chart, we can see that since 2011, Vietnam has been reducing the inflation rate rapidly year by year and by 2023,
the inflation rate will be only about 3.92%. In addition, the government hopes to maintain this stability through
2027 with an inflation rate target of approximately 4%.
(Statista, 2023)
Besides, Vietnam's unemployment rate also shows positive signs from 2022 to 2023 with a good rate of less than
3%, combined with previous years. The unemployment rate is up to 3-4%.

Number of people and unemployment rate of working age in the quarters of 2021-2023 - Source: General
Statistics Office
According to the General Statistics Office, the number of unemployed workers in the second quarter increased in
both quantity and rate compared to the previous quarter, but the good news is that this rate decreased compared to
the same period in 2022. working age in the second quarter of 2023 was 2.3%, an increase of 0.05 percentage
points compared to the previous quarter and a decrease of 0.02 percentage points compared to the same period
last year. Of which, the urban area is 2.75%; rural area is 2.01%. According to reports from localities, the number
of employees taking leave from businesses across the country in the second quarter of this year was about 241.5
thousand people, down 52.5 thousand people compared to the previous quarter. In the first 6 months of the year,
the unemployment rate in the working age was estimated at 2.27%, down 0.12 percentage points over the same
period last year, of which the urban area was 2.71%; in rural areas is 2%.

After discussing Vietnam's economic situation, it can be inferred that these are positive signs that Vietnam's
economy is developing and Samsung can still take advantage of this opportunity to grow its business here.

3. Social factor
To get a better look at how Vietnamese people interact with domestic businesses. Below are some analyzes and
diagrams illustrating clear views of Vietnam's demographics.

Labor Force

With the number of employees in Vietnam is very large ( Vietnamplus, 2023) 90.7 million people, this can be
considered as an opportunity for Samsung company, Samsung company can divide the work and increase labor
productivity. . Having enough staff to take over when employees are on leave or facing emergency situations
helps to ensure uninterrupted and uninterrupted operations. Besides, it is possible to expand production scale,
develop products and expand markets.
( General Statistical Office, International Labor Organization, n.d )

Average monthly salary

Wage difference between provinces and cities in Vietnam is an important issue and affects economic
development as well as people's lives. According to reports by the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the
United Nations Development Organization (UNDP) on the labor market situation and sustainable development in
Vietnam, low wages and access to Adequate social insurance tools are key challenges in ensuring labor market
sustainability and economic development in disadvantaged and mountainous areas. Salary differences between
provinces and cities in Vietnam can create opportunities and threats for Samsung companies depending on their
strategy and way of working. Remote work can create a new pool of talent and reduce labor costs, but it can also
make it difficult to attract and retain talented employees.

Income from military personnel (2023), Minh Khue Luat Co., Ltd

According to statistics from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (General Statistics Office, 2022), the
average salary of an employee in 2022 is about 6.5 million VND a month (equivalent to about 280 USD). With an
average salary of 6.5 million dong a month, buying a mobile phone can be quite easy, especially when prices for
electronic products are on sale, or electronic product lines are in the segment. cheap segment.
Average monthly income of employees in the first and second quarters, period 2019-2022

Culture

Vietnamese consumer psychology has its own characteristics compared to other countries in Southeast Asia. In
recent times, with the rapid development of the economy and the increase of people's income, the consumption
demand of Vietnamese people has also increased. This poses a big challenge for companies that want to penetrate
the Vietnamese market. Vietnamese consumers are often very price sensitive and look for products with low
prices and good quality. Cheap products such as smartphones, tablets and other electronic products are gaining
popularity in Vietnam. However, Vietnamese consumer psychology is also very interested in the brand and
reputation of the product. They often trust and prioritize well-known and trusted brands
Number of smartphone users (2022), VTV

Understanding and respecting the Vietnamese ownership culture is vital to doing business and investing in
Vietnam, and can be seen as an opportunity for companies like Samsung. Understanding the Vietnamese
ownership culture can help Samsung build good relationships with customers and the local community, and help
the company come up with business strategies tailored to their needs. and tastes of Vietnamese consumers.
However, if it is not possible to understand and respect the Vietnamese ownership culture, that could be a risk for
Samsung. Failure to respect the ownership culture can cause objections from customers and the local community,
negatively affecting the company's image and brand. Therefore, Samsung needs to come up with business
strategies suitable to the culture and tastes of the Vietnamese people, and at the same time respect and support
these cultural features to gain the trust and support of customers. shops and local communities.

After analysis, the social environment is not a harmful factor that can really threaten the development of this
business, but even create a favorable opportunity for Samsung Electronic to scale up according to demand. of
people all over Vietnam.

4. Technological factors
With the strong development of new technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0), the
information technology industry (IT) or ICT industry is understood as the digital technology industry. In order to
take advantage and exploit the potential of this industry, many countries have issued strategies, policies and laws
to promote the development of digital technology (Mic, 2022). Samsung is at the forefront of delivering powerful
AI and 5G technologies to consumers, with billions of dollars in investments announced in recent months to
ensure continuous integration of innovations across the world. hardware, software as well as services
( newssamsung. 2018 ). Samsung Vietnam applies many automatic equipment and lines in the production
process. Some popular automatic equipment and lines used by Samsung Vietnam:

Samsung Vietnam uses automated lines to assemble electronic products such as mobile phones, TVs, tablets, and
smart home devices. These devices are equipped with robots and automated machines to perform the assembly
and product inspection stages (Vnreview, 2017).

Samsung Vietnam uses electronic production lines to process electronic components and PCBs (Printed Circuit
Board). Automated machines are used to perform tasks such as wiring, soldering, testing and mounting
components on PCBs (Vnreview, 2019).

Samsung Vietnam uses automated testing systems (ATTS) to ensure product quality. These systems use
technology such as scanners, cameras, and automated measuring devices to check important factors such as image
quality, sound, touch, and other product features (ATTS, 2021).

Samsung Vietnam uses an information and data management system to collect, organize and process information
about the manufacturing process. These systems help track and manage manufacturing processes, store product
information, and manage supply chains. Samsung Electronics is an international company and adheres to
international management and quality standards such as ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 14001
(environmental management) (Samsung, n.d). G A is an internal Samsung standard to ensure the quality and
performance of automated production lines. Samsung Vietnam equipment and lines may have been designed and
built to these standards to ensure quality and production performance.

In the current Vietnamese Technology context, it can be inferred that this environment is likely to create
favorable opportunities for the firm's further growth based on the needs of the current Vietnam situation or even
is the general trend of the world in the near future.

5. Legal factors
The Party and State have promulgated many guidelines and policies showing their determination to develop the
digital technology industry. Among them, the Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW dated March 22, 2018 of the Politburo
(Term XII). The resolution has clearly indicated the orientation to develop the national industrial development
policy to 2030, with a vision to 2045 with the view that the development of the IT industry, the electronics
industry is the main path. The policy by 2030, focusing on prioritizing the development of a number of industries:
IT and telecommunications, and the electronics industry at the world's advanced level, meeting the requirements
of the Fourth Industrial Revolution in order to create a foundation digital technology for other industries. Official
Letter No. 0108/15-FIN/SEV dated August 3, 2015 of SEV SEV,( 2015 )proposing to consider applying tax
incentives to Samsung's investment projects in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen, including:
Apply tax incentives of 10% for 30 years for projects being implemented.

• Consider approving tax incentives for large-scale projects if these ongoing projects and subsequent projects
reach a total investment value of 12,000 billion VND in 5 years from the date of licensing.

• Samsung's next projects in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen provinces are considered as new projects, subject to tax
incentives based on large investment capital.

• To be selected at any time to enjoy the highest CIT incentives if Samsung's investment projects meet the criteria
of high technology and have great socio-economic influence.

• The additional incentives approved by the People's Committees of Thai Nguyen and Bac Ninh provinces still
apply to Samsung's projects in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen.

In Samsung's context, the legal environment plays a big role in the operation of the organization. Doing business
in Vietnam requires the company to comply with Vietnamese laws and regulations, and failure to comply can
lead to negative consequences such as fines or loss of reputation. The implementation of measures by the
Vietnamese government to control and monitor the business of companies, and this may cause inconvenience or
restriction to the company's business activities. On the other hand, such legal documents are also a protection for
them because they provide information to help businesses bid with the lowest risk, thereby managing legal factors
in business. . The regulatory environment is therefore both a threat and an opportunity for Samsung.

6. Evironmental factors
In Vietnam, natural conditions such as hot and humid climate and heavy rain can risk affecting the preservation of
Samsung electronic equipment. If electronic equipment is stored or transported in a humid environment, high
humidity can reduce product performance and durability. If electronic equipment is exposed to high temperatures,
it may damage internal components and reduce the life of the product. Therefore, to ensure that electronic
equipment is properly stored, it is necessary to use moisture-proof materials and properly package the product,
use safe means of transportation and store it in an environmentally friendly environment. Stable temperature and
humidity.

Samsung Electronics performs environmental assessments throughout the product lifecycle using its own
assessment system. To gain public confidence in this system, Samsung applied the certification criteria of Korea's
Ecolabel, the sustainability standards of the US EPEAT, ENERGY STAR and AHAM. Furthermore, to analyze
the environmental impacts across the entire life cycle of the stages of product production, use and disposal,
Samsung conducts life cycle assessments (LCAs) of its key products, evaluate the results on ten types of potential
environmental impacts ³). In particular, Samsung analyzes the impact of global warming in each stage and strives
to develop products with minimal GHG emissions based on the results. Performing life cycle assessments (LCAs)
of its key products and analyzing environmental impacts across the entire product lifecycle is an important
standard in ensuring sustainability and making a positive contribution to the environment. extreme for the
environment. Developing products with minimal GHG emissions is also an important step in reducing the impact
of technology on the environment and an opportunity for Samsung to make a positive impression on society.
Facing risks and opportunities has been Samsung's solutions and commitment to ensure sustainability and make a
positive contribution to the environment and society.

Factors of macro environment

1. Industrial rivalry
In the consumer electronics and mobile phone industries, Samsung participates in an imperfectly competitive
market structure. Despite many competing companies, Samsung remains one of the top manufacturers and has a
substantial share in these markets. Other companies such as LG, Sony, Apple, and Huawei are also direct
competitors to Samsung in these industries (IDC, 2021). Participating in an imperfectly competitive market
structure gives Samsung the opportunity to grow and to face threats from fierce competition and rapidly changing
technology and consumer preferences consumption.

According to data from market research firm GfK, in March, Samsung was the smartphone manufacturer with the
largest market share in Vietnam, accounting for 36.2% (Dantri, 2021).
Thị phần của các hãng smartphone tại Việt Nam trong tháng 3/2021.

2. Threat of new entrants

According to CFI (2023), "Barrier to Entry" is a term coined by American economist Joe S. Bain, and it refers to
the advantage of firms that already have a good brand and reputation in an industry compared to an industry. with
new entrants. This is demonstrated by the fact that established companies can continuously increase the price of
their products without being affected by competition from new companies. To overcome this barrier, new
companies need to be innovative and disruptive in their products or services to differentiate themselves from
established companies and brands in the market.

Samsung is considered to be one of the largest and most influential electronics corporations in the world
(cellphones, 2020). However, Samsung also faces fierce competition from other competitors in the market such as
Apple, LG, Sony, Huawei, Xiaomi and many other corporations ( brademar, n.d ). In general, the barriers to entry
into the electronics industry are very high there are several obstacles in the electronics industry: High capital
requirements, economies of scale, intellectual property, brand identity and barriers legal barriers…. The above
requirements have become entry barriers for new competitors entering this industry.

In 2008, Samsung Electronics Vietnam (SEV) factory was officially established in Bac Ninh with a capital of
about 9.3 billion USD ( cafef, 2023). Now, Samsung's total equity is 354.749 billion dong in December 2022.
This is an opportunity for Samsung because of high barriers to entry, large capital.

( Bang can đoi ke toan cua samsung, n.d )

3. Threat of substitutes
The threat of substitutes to Samsung is huge, especially in the electronics industry where companies must
continuously improve and innovate to meet market demands. Substitutes can be products of direct Samsung
competitors, or new alternatives with better features and prices than Samsung products ( Brademar, n.d ). For
example, in the smartphone sector, Samsung's alternatives could be Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi or OnePlus
smartphone models, which all have similar products with good features and prices. than Samsung. This is a big
threat, if Samsung doesn't innovate and innovate to compete, it could lose market share to these competitors.
However, Samsung can also use the threat of substitutes to spark creativity and innovation. Samsung can focus on
research and development of new technologies to create breakthrough products, improve production processes to
increase efficiency and reduce costs, and ramp up brand promotion campaigns to increase sales customer
recognition and trust ( Samsung, 2021 ).

In short, the threat of substitutes to Samsung is huge in the electronics industry. However, Samsung can use this
threat to find opportunities to trigger creativity and innovation, to create disruptive and competitive products in
the market.

4. Power of suppliers
According to information of vieclamnhamay.vn (2019), currently, Samsung Vietnam has more than 200 partners
both at home and abroad as suppliers: plastic components for phone cases, charging cases, molds, packaging,
meals security, hygiene…

Switching material sourcing can cause a number of costs for Samsung, including the cost of finding and
identifying new suppliers, the cost of training employees to work with new materials, the cost of transportation
and storage of new materials, and the cost of adapting to new production processes. In addition, switching raw
material sources can also affect product quality, so Samsung needs to perform quality tests to ensure that products
meet quality standards.

Switching material sourcing can also benefit Samsung, including reducing raw material costs, increasing supply
diversity, and reducing sourcing risks.

In summary, the fact that Samsung has more than 200 domestic and foreign partners to supply components can
provide opportunities for Samsung to reduce costs and increase diversity in supply.

5. Power of buyer
The final element of the Porter model is the power of the customer in the business. According to Investopedia
(n.d), news refers to this force “It is influenced by the number of buyers or customers a company has, how
important each customer is, and how much it will cost the company to acquire. find new customers or markets for
their output products. "

The power of consumers has a big impact on Samsung in assessing the company's sales, profits, brand and image.
Therefore, Samsung needs to focus on improving product quality and positive interactions with customers to
enhance consumer satisfaction and create better relationships with them.

Choosing a mobile phone is not simply choosing a brand, but also depends on the individual needs and priorities
of the buyer. In case the buyer does not want to choose Samsung, there are many other brands to consider.

 The Apple brand is famous for its iPhone and iOS phones.
 Huawei is a Chinese brand
 Google makes Pixel phones running the Android operating system

Switching costs: Giving up Samsung phones to switch to another phone company can be a difficult decision for
some Vietnamese today. Having to switch to another phone carrier costs a lot of money for some users. This can
be considered an opportunity for Samsung to retain customers. The power of buyers is both a threat and an
opportunity for Samsung

II. Identify the strengths and weaknesses of Samsung Electronics TOWS Analysis based on the following
factors of the company ( P5 )
Human Resources
To achieve success and affirm its position in the global technology market, Samsung always puts people at the
center and focuses on investing and developing quality human resources. General Director of Samsung
Electronics Vietnam Complex said that the company always pays special attention to the human resources,
through training and developing programs of quality and appropriate human resources. This is how to ensure that
each Samsung employee is not only professionally qualified but also has socio-cultural knowledge, especially the
local culture. Currently, Samsung employs more than 130,000 workers at factories in Vietnam and implements a
training program to "upgrade" the capacity of employees of all levels and positions. The company focuses on
providing knowledge and skills suitable to the requirements of production and business activities at the company,
while ensuring to keep pace with the development trend of the global society. These training programs are not
only for high-level employees, but also for workers - unskilled workers in Vietnam so that they have the
opportunity to access and learn world-standard high-quality technology. This will help enhance the quality of
human resources, improve competitiveness and contribute to the development of Vietnam (ViecLamNhaMay.Vn,
2020).
In 2020, General Director of Samsung Electronics Vietnam Complex, Mr. Choi Joo Ho, was honored with the
"Best CEO" award at the Asia Pacific Enterprise Awards for his unremitting efforts and efforts. rest

Samsung is always one of the few Vietnamese enterprises honored in the categories of training policy and
working environment. Before that, Samsung was in the Top 100 Best Places to Work in Vietnam in 2022,

employees. young (2023).

The fact that individuals and teams are always honored in good categories shows that this is a strength Samsung
needs to preserve and promote.

global brand consulting company. Interbrand announced the world's top 100 brands and this year, Samsung's

demand for memory due to an increase in user data usage today. In 2021, Samsung achieved a brand value
growth of 20% compared to 2020, and this year the company continues to grow in double digits. Samsung first
entered the list of the top 10 Best Global Brands in 2012 with 9th place. Over the years, the company has
gradually risen in the rankings, reaching sixth place in 2017 and ranking sixth in 2017. 5th place in 2020.

Asia-Pacific and NielsenIQ. This is the 10th year in a row that Samsung has been voted the top brand by
consumers in the region in an annual study conducted across 14 Asia-Pacific countries (news samsung, 2021).

With the success of winning the trust of partners and customers over the years, Samsung has used these strengths
to develop the company globally without fear of difficulties in the context of the increasingly scarce Vietnamese
market. like nowadays.

Asia's Top 1000 Brands is a quantitative survey of consumer opinions on brand preference in 15 product/service
categories. The brands named on the list have all succeeded in obtaining positive impressions, being trusted and
loved by consumers the most. It shows that Samsung has the strength because Samsung has been in the top
businesses for many years.

Samsung's strong position in society, but also proves that the company is a reliable partner for customers. This
preeminence is the result of Samsung's commitment to high quality, continuous innovation, and positive
interactions with consumers. Samsung has built a strong brand and maintained a leadership position in the
electronics industry, earning the trust and confidence of its customers.

Market resources
Currently, there are a number of e-commerce sites with which Samsung cooperates to distribute products such as
Lazada, Tiki, Shopee, Sendo, etc. Through business activities on the e-commerce platform, the amount of goods
consumed has increased. significantly, while increasing Samsung's brand awareness and position in the hearts of
consumers. Besides Lazada, Tiki or Shopee, Samsung is also present on a number of other online platforms such
as CellphoneS, Electronics Supermarket, Thegioididong, etc. All of the big companies have invested heavily in
Marketing campaigns to increase product volume. Consumption of Samsung products is increasing day by day.
Samsung's electronic products, especially Smartphones, have seen a sharp increase in consumption when e-
commerce platforms were born, launching monthly super sale events as well as super sale events on holidays
year, stimulate demand with a series of attractive vouchers. In short, market resources are Samsung's strength
because there are more than 200 domestic and foreign suppliers.

values is the key to good business. That's why these core values, along with a rigorous code of conduct, are at the
heart of every decision the company makes." Samsung always carries with it the mission of dedicating talent and

between it and the community such as relationships with consumers, domestic and even global stakeholders.

Conclusion
After analyzing the positive and negative impacts of the macro environment on Samsung Electronic in Vietnam
over time, it can be inferred that Samsung not only has the opportunities inherited from the country's
development. but also face certain dangers. can directly affect the important issue. However, through analysis, the
company has made a remarkable impression on its ability to maintain its legacies from the outset, at the same
time with wise strategies and sound actions. Samsung is still a leading pioneer in the field of becoming one of the
