Detailed Lesson Plan in SCIENCE 9

I. OBJECTIVES:

At the end of 1 hour lesson the students of Grade 9 will be able to,

1. identify the parts of human respiratory system ,

2. appreciate the importance of taking good care of the lungs

3. create a diagram to show the path of air in the Respiratory System.

A. CONTENT STANDARD: The learner's demonstrate understanding of how

the different structure of the circulatory and respiratory system work
together to transport oxygen rich blood and nutrients to the different parts
of the body.

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learner's should be able to conduct an

information dissemination activity on effective ways of taking good care of
the respiratory and circulatory system based on data gathered from the
school or local health workers.

C. MOST ESSENTIAL LEARNING COMPETENCIES: Explain how the

respiratory and circulatory system work together to transport nutrients,
gases and other molecules to and from the different parts of the body S9LT

I. ELICIT

A. Review

Before we continue to the next

Yesterday, I learned about the
topic, let us review our topic
circulatory system. So when we
yesterday. The teacher will choose a
say circulatory system it is the life
student in the class who will share
support structure that nourishes
knowledge what he / she gained from
your cell with nutrients from the
the previous lesson.
food you eat and oxygen from air
you breathe.

Okey Very good!

( Bigyan ng Isang bagsak )

What are the three major parts of  Heart

Circulatory system?
 Blood

 Blood vessels

Very good!

( Bigyan ng Isang bagsak )

What is the function of Heart?

It pumps the blood throughout the
body.

Very Good !

( Bigyan ng Isang bagsak )

What is the function of Blood? It carries the materials like waste
product oxygen and nutrients
throughout the body.
Very Good !

How about the function of Blood

It carries the blood throughout the
vessels?
body.
Very Good!

What are the three kinds of blood

 Veins
vessels?
 Arteries

 Capillaries
Very Good !

B. Motivation

II. Engage

Okey class to start our lesson for

today, I would like you to stand up and
stand straight. Let's have a breathing
activity.

Breath with me in a count of three

all together ( one, two, three) again
( one, two, three ) breath.

Question:

Can you tell me what you did in

taking deep breath? I'm taking in and out the air

Very good!

Next, I want you to inhale and

exhale three time ( INHALE, EXHALE ,
INHALE, EXHALE, INHALE, EXHALE)

Question:

This time how do you feel about it?

When I'm inhale and exhale I'm feel
relaxed and clamed.
Now, this time I want you to breath
and hold your breath for a moment in
( ONE, TWO, THREE BREATH IN )
Hold it ( ONE,TWO, THREE) EXHALE.
Again

Question:

How do you feel about it? I can hardly breath.

III. Explore

Class, we are going to have an

activity, you will answer the activity
about the human respiratory system.
You can identify the parts of breathing
system.

Activity 1: Name Me!

Direction: Observe the drawing of the

respiratory system. Identify and locate
the parts with the given words inside
the box . Write your answer on the
blank.

Trachea Pharynx Lungs

Nose Alveoli Bronchi

Bronchiole Epiglottis Nasal

cavity

Larynx

Guide Question:

Q1 . How will you describe the When the air/ oxygen we breathe
pathway of oxygen in the breathing goes through the nose, nasal
system? passages, and then through the
trachea o windpipe, which
separates into two branches called
bronchial tubes or bronchi, one
entering each lungs.

( Student answer may vary )

Q2 . What will happen if one part of It can lead to a complete system
the system fails to carry out it's failure, rendering the system
function properly? inoperable.

I will give you five minutes to analyze

the picture and look the words inside
the grid and answer the question. We
will have the checking during our
discussion.

IV. Explain

According to what you have

learned from the activity a while ago, Respiratory System is made up of
how will you define human respiratory the organs in the body that helps us
system? to breath.

( Student answer may vary )

What is the parts of the Respiratory  Nose and nasal cavity

System?
 Pharynx

 Epiglottis

 Larynx

 Trachea

 Bronchi

 Bronchiole

 Lungs

 Alveoli

How will you describe nose and nasal

Nose and Nasal Cavity it is a form
cavity?
of the main external opening for
the respiratory system.

( Student answer may vary )

What can you see in the picture?

 Mouth

 Pharynx
Very Good!

How will you describe the Pharynx? Pharynx ( Throat ) it is a muscular

funnel that ( end of nasal cavity to
the end of the esophagus and
larynx ).

( Student answer may vary )

What can you see in the picture?  Epiglottis

Very good!

How will you describe the Epiglottis? Epiglottis it is a flap of elastic

cartilage that acts as a switch
between the trachea and the
esophagus.

( Student answer may vary )

Larynx ( Voice box ) it is a short

How will you describe Larynx?
section of the airway that connects
the pharynx and the trachea.

( Student answer may vary )

How will you describe Trachea? Trachea it is the empty tube that
serve as a passage way of air into
the lungs.

( Student answer may vary )

How will you describe Bronchi? Bronchi are the two branching
tubes that connect the trachea to
the lungs.

( Student answer may vary )

How will you describe Bronchiole?

Bronchiole are the hairlike tubes
that connect to the alveoli.

( Student answer may vary )

How will you describe Alveoli? Alveoli are the airsacs that allows
gas exchange in the lungs.

( Student answer may vary )

V. Elaborate

At this time I will group into 3

group .

Group 1. Labeling each part and

giving it's function.

Group 2. Write the path of oxygen

( Student can do the group activity
from outside of the body to the blood
)
stream.

Group 3. Bottled Balloons.

I will give you 15 minutes to finish

the task. And select one from your
group to share / present your work
with the class.
A. Generalization

1. What will happen if one part of the Respiratory failure occurs when the
respiratory system fails to carry out amount of oxygen that moves from
it's function properly? your lungs into your blood stream is
insufficient and does not allow your
heart, brain and other organs to
function normally.

( Student answer may vary )

2. How will you describe the Upon inhalation, the diaphragm

movement of the diaphragm helps the contracts and flattens and the
air go in and out of the lungs? chest cavity enlarges. This
contraction creates a vacuum,
which pulls air into the lungs. Upon
exhalation, the diaphragm relaxes
and returns to its domelike shape,
and air is forced out of the lungs.

( Student answer may vary )

VI. Evaluation

Direction: Identify the parts of

respiratory system and write your
