Lesson Plan 10/19/2023

Grade- Kindergarten
Duration- 10 minutes
Goals
 Students will practice breathing properly in preparation for future study of
singing or an instrument.
 Students will be able to keep a steady beat.
 Students will be able to mimic the sounds the teacher makes.
Standards
 K.1CR- Explore and create a variety of vocal pathways.
 K.3CR- Experience a wide variety of vocal and instrumental sounds.
 K.6PE- Duplicate same and different. (loud/soft, long/short)

Activity 1
1. Talk about dragon breaths. How dragon’s “tummies” expand when they
breathe.
2. Have students lay on the ground and put a pencil or paper they have on top
of where their belly buttons are. Have them practice dragon breathing,
making sure they see whatever they put on their tummy move.

Activity 2
1. Students will get up off the floor and stand up straight, placing one hand
over their belly button.
2. Students will follow teacher instruction to exhale their breath on certain
counts and sounds ex. Hiss like a snake, say “toh” and stomp like a giant,
‘my my my my my’ on descending pitch like how “mom or dad or grandma”
says it in the higher voice, possibly match pitch on a syllable depending on
progress.
Accommodations

 Any students uncomfortable on the floor will not be forced to


participate and I can individually adjust the activity to their needs.

Assessment

1. Formative assessment by having them self-evaluate along with my


continued observations and prompting questions throughout the lesson.
2. Summative assessment via a final round of prompting and questioning at the
end of the lesson.
