Date Events in Magellan’s Voyage

Magellan's expedition, consisting of five ships, arrived at the island of

Homonhon in the Philippines. They were welcomed by the local

The crew rested and resupplied in Homonhon, taking the opportunity to

repair their ships and recover from the long journey across the Pacific

Magellan and his crew sailed to the nearby island of Limasawa, where they

encountered Rajah Kolambu and the island's chieftains. A blood compact,

alliance.

The expedition arrived in Cebu, where Magellan met Rajah Humabon, the

local leader. Magellan and Humabon established friendly relations, and

many locals were converted to Christianity.

Rajah Humabon and his wife, Queen Hara Amihan, along with several

thousand Cebuanos, were baptized as Christians. This event marked a

A conflict arose between Magellan's forces and Lapu-Lapu, a local chieftain

on the nearby island of Mactan. Magellan led an ill-fated expedition to

subdue Lapu-Lapu, and he was killed in the Battle of Mactan.

May 1, 1521 After Magellan's death, the expedition's leadership passed to Juan

Sebastián Elcano. The remaining two ships, the Trinidad and the

Concepcion, left Cebu in an attempt to continue the voyage westward.
