When Ferdinand Magellan landed in the Philippines,

Magellan ordered his troops to moor their ships on the beaches of

Homonhon Island, where he had made friends with rajah
Calambu, the chief of Limasawa, who had brought him to Cebu.

Magellan, Lapu-Lapu, one of the two chiefs on Mactan Island,

The fighting had been vicious, the Spaniards kill many

1521 native then thrust a bamboo spear into the captain’s face and
they all thrust him.

There are not enough men to handle three ships, thus the worm
infested Concepcion is burned down. Two ships remain; Victoria and

1521 Victoria. Joao Lopez Carvalho is Captain General. The ships sail to
Mindanao and Brunei.

SEPTEMB Carvalho is replaced by Martin Mendez as Captain
