CHAPTER I

PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

I. Introduction

In this world, we lived in a digital world wherein interconnected objects such as

computers, tablets, and phones seems to be matter to communicate, read, answer the tests
online and etc. You can easily get the answer to your questions by using internet but how
will you understand it if you just copy and paste it from the internet? Without even
knowing if it’s true or correct and even the authors can't prove it right. By far the greatest
danger of artificial intelligence is that people conclude too early that they understand it
(Eliver yudkousky, 2016).

Our natural intelligence is totally damage or it's getting weaker and weaker.
Books in the library becomes a display because some of us are too lazy to read but
honestly, books are really powerful especially by giving you answer, you'll simply write
it down because there is an author who proved it. Reading books and search for your
desire answer takes lots of time. But you are not just searching for the answer you are
analyzing it and it can wide up the range of your knowledge. Good librarians are natural
intelligence operatives. They possess all of the skills and characteristics required for that
work; Curiosity, wide range knowledge, good memories, organization, and analytical
aptitude and discretion.

This experiment was designed to determine what is the most knowledgeable and
usable in terms of artificial and natural intelligence and also the objective of this study is
to know what is the commonly used by the students to gather information if it is by their
know knowledge or by just searching the answer through internet

The purpose of this experiment was, therefore, to study the artificial and natural
intelligence and what's more knowledgeable and usable for us. The result can be lessons
for students if they use and apply the artificial and natural intelligence and how does it
affect this to us researchers and this will help the readers to inform what the best way to
get knowledge is.
Statement of the Problem

1. What is the demographic profile of a student according to;

A. Age

B.Sex

2. What is the most effective in terms of academic performance of a respondent?

A. Artificial intelligence

B. Natural intelligence

Hypothesis

HA: Majority of SHS students used artificial intelligence the easily gather
information than natural intelligence

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study focuses on how artificial intelligence and natural intelligence affects
and helps the grade 11 and grade 12 students. The data collection will be conducted in
100 students in grade 11 and grade 12 students of Our Lady of Fatima University, school
year 2019-2020 that will serve as a respondent. This study covers the importance of
artificialintelligence and natural intelligence in the SHS students. This study would be
done through questionnaire using survey as a reference. By that, researchers will be able
to know the difference between artificial intelligence and natural intelligence.

The other students which do not fall as part of grade 11 and grade 12 students are
not within this research. This study will not cover things that are not connected in our
topic.

Significance of the Study

The researcher predicted that majority of the respondents used artificial
intelligence or also called machine intelligence. Students are often base their school paper
works to the computer or other devices because using modern technologies the school
works of the students can easily done and the information are can get through one click in
the internet or other modern sources of information.

The senior high school students are more in artificial intelligence because of the
modernization of our generation. Students use more computers especially on thesis paper
and other school works. The knowledge of students now are more came from on surfing
in internet as machines become increasingly capable, task considered to require
“Intelligence”. One click and you will be knowledge to what you want to know. Students
get information more on internet rather than on their own knowledge.

In this study, the researchers tested what is the most useful intelligence between
artificial intelligence vs. natural intelligence on academic performance of the senior high
school students in our lady of Fatima University. Some of senior high school students use
artificial intelligence to do their school works that need help to get ideas from
technologies, but some of senior high school students use natural intelligence that no
need help of ideas from technologies.

The main goal of the researchers is to know what is useful between artificial
intelligence vs. natural intelligence to the senior high school students in our lady of
Fatima University that help the researchers to identify the most important intelligence to
the students and how it affects to their academic performances.

On gathering data, the researchers will ask permission from the senior high school
students in our lady of Fatima University so that the researchers will conduct an
experimental research in their class. The researchers pass a paper contains some
questions created it to respondents to test their artificial intelligence and natural
intelligence that acquired and apply knowledge and skills in specific topic to tested their
intelligence. After the data gathering which is by having a survey questionnaires?
Researchers consider how much more answers are based on their questionnaire and they
can proceed to their study. The result of the experiment will be based on the respondents
answer.

Reconstructing Our Orders by Bing Wang, et.al (2019)

According to Bin Wang as the progressive ladder for human society, education
aims at ensuring cultural heritage and social development. Also importantly, it may
inspire human imagination. In this case, education is very critical in the development of a
nation and even in the whole human society. Education will vary with different times in
its concepts, contents and modes and accumulate energy for the transformation of social
patterns. They say Now, Artificial intelligence has been used in nearly all the industries
and trades, posing a powerful impetus in promoting economic development and social
progress. The in-depth development of Artificial intelligence will be bound to accelerate
the process of social order restructuring, ensure the harmonious coexistence between
mankind and nature, coordinate the development man and science and bring
unprecedented development opportunities as well as challenges to education. In
intelligence age, with more educational resources available, more flexible modes and
patterns and multivariate intelligence systems in teaching, great changes will take place
in education, during which people may acquire knowledge in the forms of clustering and
individual education and their ability will be greatly improved. Meanwhile, the new
topics will emerge on how to enlighten people’s mind, how to reforge their values and
how to tap their potential. Wang B. et al. (2018)

Artificial Intelligence the Case Against by Rainer Born (2018)

Artificial Intelligence (AI) was a sub-section of the computer sciences and it is

not even a very young science, for all its recent popularity according to rainer born. in
1956, at the Dartmouth Conference in Hanover, New Hampshire, John McCarthy and
Marvin Minsky introduced the name ‘Artificial Intelligence ‘for this particular branch of
the computer sciences. The essays collected here all aim to expound the true nature of
Artificial Intelligence and to remove the ill-considered philosophical discussions which
seek answers to the wrong questions in the wrong ways. They say Philosophical
discussions and decisions about the proper use of Artificial Intelligence need to be base
on a proper understanding of the manner in which Artificial intelligence scientists
achieve their results in particular, in their dependence on the initial planning input of
human beings. The distinguished authors in this volume represent a cross-section of
philosophers, psychologists, and computer scientists from all over the world. Born.

The Measure of All Minds by Cambridge University Press (2017)

According to José Hernández-Orallo who formulates major scientific questions,

integrates the most significant research developments, and offers a vision of the universal
evaluation of cognition. By replacing the dominant anthropocentric stance with a
universal perspective where living organisms are considered as a special case, long-
standing questions in the evaluation of behavior can be addressed in a huge landscape. He
question if "can we derive task difficulty intrinsically?" "Is a universal g factor a common
general component for all abilities theoretically possible?" Using algorithmic information
theory as a foundation, the book elaborates on the evaluation of perceptual,
developmental, social, verbal and collective features and critically analyzes what the
future of intelligence might look like. He wants to know more what can artificial
intelligence give us and improve to our mind. Hernández-Orallo, J. (2017).

Artificial Intelligence the revolution hasn’t happened yet by lo, A.W. (2019)

According to Andrew Michael I. Jordan has written a thought-provoking article

on the paradox of progress in Artificial Intelligence (AI). The study of artificial humanity
may be a useful halfway house in developing an understanding of the hazards of AI and
the necessary guards that will allow us to live in harmony with these tools. In this age of
Big Data, large data sets of individual behavioral information are increasingly available
to researchers for analysis and one of the largest sources is the world of finance. In a very
practical sense, financial markets are a collection of innumerable behavioral psychology
experiments running in parallel, each with an estimable risk and a calculable reward to
the experimental subject. This gives researchers the opportunity to simultaneously
examine the macroscopic and the micro foundational scales of behavior. Lo, A.W. (2019)

Artificial intelligence: A modern approach. Malaysia; Pearson Educated Limited. By

Russell, Stuart J. and Norvig, Peter.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a big field, and this is a big book. This book tried to
explore the full breadth of the field, which encompasses logic, probability, and
continuous mathematics; perception, reasoning, learning, and action; and everything from
microelectronic devices to robotic planetary explorers. The book is also big because of it
some depth. Russell and Norvig,P.(2016)

Local literature

The term “artificial intelligence” dates back to 1956 and belongs to a Stanford
researcher John McCarthy, who coined the term and defined the key mission of AI as a
sub-field of computer science. Basically, artificial intelligence (AI) is the ability of a
machine or a computer program to think and learn. That is the glamorous end of AI. It
actually starts by amassing huge amounts of data (big data) from which algorithms are
applied to see patterns in the data that ordinary human will have difficulty discerning
without the aid of massive computing power. Over time, as data and experience
accumulates, the machine learns and rethinks. This is why they are calling data as the
new oil. The more the better (Roberto R. Romulo, 2018)
The (Russell & Norvig 2003) The term of AI, also defined as “Machine
Intelligence” or “Computational Intelligence”, encompasses a huge variety of subfields,
ranging from general-purpose areas, such as learning and perception to such specific
tasks as playing chess, proving mathematical theorems, writing poetry, and diagnosing
diseases it means artificial intelligence is not all about technologies but also it is about
knowing or understanding specific tasks

according (Forbes 2017), artificial intelligence is defined by encyclopedia

Britannica, is the ability of a digital computer or computer-controlled robot to perform
tasks commonly associated with intelligence beings, there is some AI that some people
used to search information, the example of this are siri, alexa and tesla, artificial
intelligence can gives people right and perfect information that they need

(Derekgallimore 2019). Artificial intelligence is now part of our lives. We may not know
it, but each of us may have used or seen one already (CCSE programming school, 2018).

In gathering the data, researchers will conduct the experiment in the different
group of students. By the use of demographic profile the researchers will be able to
determine the identity including the age, sex, and grade & section of the participants. To
get the efficient result. And through the experiment that researchers used is quantitative
design, the respondents will receive a test individually, that distribute of the researchers.
Most of them the respondents use a artificial intelligence to easily gather the information

Theoretical Framework

Theory of AI by Minsky

“Our minds contains processes that enable us to solve problems we consider

difficult. ‘Intelligence’ is our name for whichever of those processes we don’t yet
understand.” According to this opinion, a “theory of AI” is impossible by definition,
since we cannot have a theory for “those processes we don’t yet understand” — as soon
as we have a good theory for such a process, it is no longer considered as AI anymore
[Minsky (2017); Schank (2017)].

The theory of Theory of AI by Minsky applies the chosen topic of the researchers,
where this theory of AI talks about the intelligence and the processes of what we don’t
understand, this also applies the intelligence of our mind in problem solving, memorizing
and ETC, this theory is a process of our mind that we think and how does our mind
produce a good answer. And this theory also said that if we think in process this is no
longer AI anymore this is our natural intelligence.
CHAPTER 3

3.0 Research Methodology

3.1 Research Design

The researchers used quantitative research because it is the approach that tests the
objective theories through examining the relationship of the variables. Through
quantitative approach, the researchers can determine the relationship between the two
variables; artificial intelligence or natural intelligence that can help to distinguish which
is most applicable in studying.

The research design being used is experimental to determine the outcome of the
study. The researcher will divided into two groups; the control and experimental group to
know which is more effective between the two variables.

3.2 Research Locale

The researchers conducted the study in Our Lady of Fatima University Hilltop,
Quezon City. The respondents will tested in HS Building where there are a lot of
available respondent that was needed for the researchers, and chosen respondents are
only Senior High School Students ( Grade 11 and Grade 12).

3.3 Research Subject

The chosen respondents for this study are the grade 11 and grade 12 students. One
hundred (100) students will be chosen to be the source of data that will relevant to the
study. The fifty (50) students are from grade 11 and the other 50 are from grade 12
students.

Sampling method used is simple random sampling because in this method, usually
it is not biased when it comes in choosing its respondents and the advantage of this
method is you simply pick randomly your respondents.
3.4 Research Ethics

The researchers assure that the proponents provided different ethical precaution
that the research needed to follow, principle of respect for persons indicates that the
people shall be treated as independent agents and the participants of this research are also
have its permission to be the sources of data that proves the credibility of this research.

The researchers do not force any participants to take the questions and become the
sources of data of this research. If the respondents decided to take in this study, they will
be asked to sign a consent form. After signing the consent form, they still free to
withdraw anytime. During the test administration and the research proper, if the
respondents fell any discomfort regarding the questions or in any part of the data
gathering procedure that they think their rights as a participants of the study have been
violated thus, they can immediately tell the researchers or in any case with draw from the
study.

The researchers must maintain the principles that are really needed in this study.
The researchers must maintain the positive goal of the study and the researchers must
treat the respondents nicely and equally.

3.5 Research Instrument

The researchers used an questionnaires as an instrument to observe and to identify

the Artificial intelligence vs. Natural intelligence of the senior High School and the
required respondent is 100 with the (10) ten open-ended questionnaire, the researcher
conducted this study in our lady of Fatima university.

3.6 Data Gathering Procedure

1. The researcher ask for the permission of the respondent if they can be part of
the data gathering.

2. When the respondent accepted the request of the researcher together with the
permission to conduct the study. Researcher will give time to the respondent to fill in the
survey questionnaires for the study.

3. After collecting all the data gathering needed.

4. Researchers will give thank you gift to the respondents for participating the data
gathering.
