The student survey that was used was the Grade 3-5 Student Survey.

1. Nineteen surveys were distributed. (Two students were absent when the survey was

given.)

2. Nineteen completed surveys were returned.

3. The percentage of completed questionnaires that I received was 100%.

4. There are twenty-one students in Mr. Conway’s 3rd grade classroom. In his class, there is

fourteen boys and seven girls. There are nine gifted students in his class. In Mr.

Conway’s, there are no IEPs or 504s.

Diversity of student’s ethnicities:

White: 12

Black: 5

Hispanic: 2

Multiracial: 2

5. The first factor that might have influenced the results survey was given after a reading

lesson. The second factor that might have influenced the results is that the students were

given 5 minutes to complete the survey. The third factor that might have influenced the

results is that the students were told that I was leaving on the same day as the survey was

given. The fourth factor that might have influenced the results is that I did not read the

survey to the students so they might not have understood what everything meant.

6.

a. The three things that my students perceive as major areas of strengths are my

knowledge of the content being taught, my preparedness to teach every day, and

my respect for all students.

b. The three things that my students perceive as a weakness is communicating with

parents, providing books and learning materials that include people from different

cultures, and providing their work back with helpful comments.

c. The first way that I can use this information for continuous professional growth is

by seeking more opportunities to communicate with parents during my second

placement. However, I think that I will not truly be able to improve my

communication with parents when I am the teacher and not a student teacher. The

second thing that I can use this information for continuous professional

development by seeking books and learning materials outside of the school’s

curriculum to provide more books and learning materials that include people from

different cultures. The third way that I can use this information for continuous

professional growth is to start finding ways that I can return students’ work with

helpful comments. However, in math if I saw my students doing something

incorrectly while completing work in small groups, I would discuss it with them

to help them complete the task correctly.
