Enabling Assessment 1: Homework#1 (Week2-3)

Using Microsoft Word, answer the following questions:

1. What is Microsoft WORD?

A word processing program called Microsoft Word is one of the commonly used

programs of Microsoft Office that enables the creation of both straightforward and

intricate documents through type-written text. It has readily-available templates

for every word document, like flyers and brochures, that is used by many people

all over the world in creating different word documents. In addition, the user could

choose specific font size and font style of text they wanted to be, and customize

text easily. Moreover, the user can delete errors, adjust line spacing, and adjust

alignment of text easily.

2. What is the importance of using Microsoft WORD?

Microsoft Word is very essential program nowadays. The main importance of

using Microsoft Word is that it helps the user to create word processing

documents such as letters and emails in a much easier and more convenient

way, such as adding colored and bold texts, adding, formatting and editing texts,
and adding pictures, in comparison with traditional method of doing it. Moreover,

the different templates present in Microsoft Word would easily help the users to

accomplish several paper-works in a much lesser time and effort.

3. What feature/s of MS Word do you frequently utilize as a BSA student?

The features of MS Word I frequently utilize as a BSA student is the adding,

typing, deleting, and formatting texts, as well as printing documents. As a BSA

student, I’m required to make various financial reports such as income statement,

balance sheet, statement of changes in equity, etc. With these, I need to add text

for me to start typing text; type which enables me to input several text messages;

deleting which enables me to delete my errors; formatting texts which allows me

to change the font style and font size, as well as the spacing and indention of my

text; and most especially is the printing documents which allows me to print what

I’ve written in the document.

Explanation of parts of Microsoft Word

a) Quick Access Toolbar = Shortcuts to frequently used features, options,

commands, or option groups are gathered in the Quick Access Toolbar.

b) Menu Bar = It is located beneath the title bar which enables the user to

point and click their way to window-specific features like saving a file,

copying text, or opening a help window.


c) Title Bar = It is located at the top of the window which displays the title of

the document.

d) Minimize Button = Used to minimize the window.

e) Maximize Button = Used to maximize the window.

f) Close Button = Used to close the window.

g) Ribbon = the top of the screen has a command bar called the ribbon that

groups the features of a program into several tabs. To help users find

desired commands quickly, ribbon tabs are made up of groups of closely

related commands.

h) Insertion Point = It looks like a flashing vertical line where a node or piece

of text is inserted.

i) Scroll Bar = It is a long rectangular used to scroll up and down the

window.

j) Page Reference = It is located at the bottom left of the screen which

indicates the page number of a certain document.

k) Status Bar = It is a horizontal window located at the bottom of the window

which displays the status of the document.

l) Document View = It is located at the lower right of the screen, beside the

zoom slider, that shows 3 different buttons: Read Mode, Print Layout, and

Web Layout. The read mode allows the user to view the document in

“read mode”. The print layout allows the user to view the document on

how it will be printed. And the web layout allows the user to demonstrate
what the document would look like if it were to be published as a

webpage.

m) Zoom Slider = It is in the bottom right section of the section which allows

the user the zoom in or zoom out the size of the document.
